We are looking for a skilled and experienced Customs Officer to handle import/export clearance processes, ensure regulatory compliance, and facilitate smooth cross-border logistics. The ideal candidate will play a key role in ensuring smooth customs clearance, timely shipments, and full regulatory compliance with customs laws and regulations. 

Position Summary

The Customs Officer is responsible for managing the import and export clearance of goods in accordance with Ethiopian customs laws and international trade regulations. This role ensures that shipments are processed efficiently, duties and taxes are accurately assessed, and all documentation meets regulatory standards. 

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare, review, and submit all necessary customs documentation for import and export shipments (e.g., permits, declarations, invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin)
• Classify goods using Harmonized System (HS) codes
• Calculate and verify customs duties, taxes, and other applicable charges
• Use customs software (e.g., ECMS Portal, VDD system) to process declarations
• Ensure shipments comply with Ethiopian customs laws and international trade regulations
• Monitor and track the status of shipments, ensuring compliance with customs deadlines and avoiding demurrage or detention charges
• Stay updated on changes in customs laws, regulations, tariffs, and procedures, ensuring company compliance
• Resolve issues related to cargo delays, documentation discrepancies, or valuation disputes
• Liaise with government agencies to obtain permits for restricted or special cargo
• Work closely with customs officials, freight forwarders, shipping lines, and internal teams to ensure timely clearance
• Maintain accurate and organized records of all customs transactions and documentation
• Prepare regular reports on clearance activities, duty payments, and compliance status
• Archive documents according to organizational and legal standards

• BA in International Trade & Finance, Logistics & Supply Chain Management, Economics, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in customs clearance 
• Familiarity with Ethiopian Customs Management System (CMS) Portal and customs valuation procedures
• Proven in-depth knowledge of Ethiopian Customs Proclamation, regulations, procedures, and tariff classification
• Excellent understanding of import/export processes, INCOTERMS, and international trade practices
• Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
• Computer literacy, including strong command of Microsoft Office Suite
