Senior Accountant

Job Summary

The Senior Accountant plays a critical role in ensuring the financial health and regulatory compliance of the company. This position oversees day-to-day accounting operations, prepares accurate financial reports, supports audits, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to provide data-driven financial insights. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to financial management and process improvement.

Key Responsibilities 

   Financial Reporting & Compliance 

• Prepare and submit monthly VAT reports to the Ethiopian Revenues and Customs Authority (ERCA).
•  Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with applicable accounting standards. 
• Analyze financial performance and identify variances to key metrics.

   Month-End & Year-End Close 

• Lead month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial adjustments using Peachtree
• Ensure all transactions are accurately recorded and reported within required timelines
• Account Reconciliation Perform regular general ledger, bank, and subsidiary account reconciliations
• Investigate and resolve discrepancies promptly.

   Audit Coordination

• Support internal and external audits by preparing required documentation and facilitating audit procedures.

   Process Improvement

• Identify areas for improving accounting processes, systems, and reporting accuracy.
• Implement accounting best practices and automation where applicable to enhance efficiency.

   Collaboration & Support 

• Work independently while coordinating with external accounting consultants. Support operational needs and facilitate financial matters at the Revenue Office as necessary.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• Minimum 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction or engineering industry 
• Proficiency in Peachtree or similar accounting software 
• Advanced Excel skills (e.g., VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables) 
• Strong ability to interpret financial data, identify issues, and propose practical solutions. 
• Clear written and verbal communication skills; capable of presenting financial insights to non-finance stakeholders
