Position Summary
As a key member of the finance team, the Finance Officer will play a vital role in supporting the Finance Manager and internal stakeholders in managing the financial systems of Pharo Ventures Ethiopia and its subsidiaries. This role demands flexibility, precision, and a collaborative spirit to ensure timely and accurate financial services, uphold high standards of financial control, and contribute to strategic financial planning.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Financial Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare, review, and post financial documents accurately and on time to generate reliable financial reports.
- Ensure all payment support documentation complies with internal policies before processing.
- Process payments promptly and follow up to ensure completion.
- Journalize payroll entries for each staff member in the finance system.
- Maintain the accounting filing system for Pharo Ventures Ethiopia.
Cash & Payroll Management
- Manage office petty cash, ensuring timely replenishment and secure custody.
- Prepare monthly payroll, ensuring all changes are authorized and supported by documentation.
- Calculate and remit statutory deductions and taxes within required timeframes.
- Ensure proper withholding and filing of tax receipts in chronological order.
Receivables & Inventory
- Track employee advances and accounts receivable, and follow up on recovery or escalation.
- Receive inventory items, verify deliveries against orders, and ensure secure storage.
- Maintain the inventory database and ensure insurance coverage is active.
- Assist in barcoding and organizing office inventory.
Banking & Vendor Relations
- Monitor bank accounts to maintain adequate liquidity and avoid overdrafts.
- Manage vendor accounts, perform timely reconciliations, and resolve issues.
- Prepare bank reconciliation statements and escalate matters requiring action.
- Conduct other account reconciliations and address discrepancies.
System & Internal Controls
- Ensure internal controls within the accounting system are functioning effectively.
- Identify and report system issues to the Finance Manager.
- Design financial analysis tools to support decision-making.
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Prepare management reports, financial statements, audit and tax returns.
- Support budgeting, cash flow forecasting, and budgetary control implementation.
- Analyze monthly financial reports and advise the Finance Manager on key issues.
- Review balance sheet accounts periodically to ensure accuracy and reconciliation.
Audit & Compliance
- Assist in preparing annual financial statements and stakeholder reports.
- Support internal and external audit processes and resolve audit issues.
- Coordinate audit activities and ensure timely completion.
Capacity Building & Communication
- Train finance and non-finance staff on financial policies and statutory regulations.
- Provide weekly updates to senior leadership and respond promptly to inquiries.
- Ensure expectations of the Finance Manager, CFO, General Manager, and Country Head are consistently met.
Other Duties
- Perform additional tasks as assigned to support the finance function and organizational goals.

- Compliance with Pharo Ventures financial policies and procedures
- Accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial reports and transactions
- Efficiency in payment processing and financial management turnaround
- Quality and clarity of financial deliverables
- Effective cash management and system implementation
- Development of core competencies and soft skills
- Capacity building of finance assistants and accountants
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
- CPA, ACCA, or equivalent professional certification
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience, ideally in audit firms or international organizations
- Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks, Tally, Sage, or Xero preferred)
- Advanced Excel and Microsoft Office skills
- Strong analytical, communication, and organizational abilities
- Ability to work independently under pressure and meet deadlines
