Summary of the position

A Pharmacy Head is responsible for leading, supervising, and developing the pharmacy team to ensure excellent patient care and efficient operations. Key responsibilities include managing daily operations like verifying client’s prescription and dispensing drugs, overseeing inventory, ensuring regulatory compliance, mentor and train pharmacy staffs, and fostering a supportive team environment through strong leadership and communication skills. 

To ensure success as a pharmacy head, he/she should demonstrate experience in managing a pharmacy and compliance with best pharmacy practices and will qualify as pharmacists with a customer-oriented approach.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing drug dispensers, reception and cashiers, shelf stockers and registers, and other pharmacy employees. 
  • Organizing the pharmacy in an efficient manner to make the identification of medication easier and faster.
  • Preparing drugs and executing prescription orders for collection or delivery.
  • Ordering pharmacy supplies and controlling the inventory on a daily basis.
  • Enforcing best practice protocols when storing prescription drugs and controlled substances.
  • Verifying drug prescriptions details ordered by physician before dispensing to the clients.  
  • Advising customers about the recommended use, dosage, and possible side-effects of medication.
  • Maintaining an approved drug and controlled substances list and verifying expiry dates.
  • Monitoring product displays and shelves, as well as the general appearance of the pharmacy.
  • Liaise the pharmacy with clinical and administrative departments. 
  • Addressing customers' requests and complaints.
  • Provide induction, orientation and training for newly joined pharmacy employees.
  • Prepare performance goal for pharmacy staffs and evaluate them within specific time.
  • Prepare annual departmental plan with budget allocation.
  • Prepare department’s report regularly.   

Qualification, Experience & Skills 

  • Bachelor of Science (BSc) Degree in Pharmacy from recognized University. 
  • 2 years and above experience with pharmacist and managerial experience, (Pharmacy Head, Store Head, Inventory Management)   
  • Renewed license and registration certificate from Health regulatory body. 
  • In-depth knowledge of the pharmacological uses and side effects of prescription drugs and controlled substances.
  • Previous experience in private health sector is advantageous. 
  • Strong leadership, team building and managing abilities.
  • Advanced knowledge of protocols regulating the safe storage of prescription drugs and controlled substances.
  • Communication skills in advising customers and managing employees.
  • Ability to proactively follow up of any processed activities at the pharmacy.
  • Abilities in pharmacy management software.
  • Microsoft software Proficiency. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
