ABOUT KURMUK GOLD MINE PLC (KGM)

Kurmuk Gold Mine PLC (KGM) is a subsidiary of Allied Gold Corp, a company listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange, with mining operations in multiple countries including Ethiopia, Mali, and Côte d'Ivoire. KGM holds a Large-Scale Gold Mining License and three Exploration Licenses for its Ethiopian project. These licenses are located in western Ethiopia, approximately 750 km from Addis Ababa and about 90 km northwest of Assosa, in the Benishangul-Gumuz Regional State. KGM is currently engaged in both mine development and exploration activities at the site. 

THE ROLE

The Management of KGM is seeking to employ a dedicated, experienced and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Emergency Response Team (ERT) Supervisor to actively lead and coordinate emergency response teams, develop and implement emergency plans, train staff, and ensure compliance with regulations, all while maintaining a high level of preparedness and responsiveness to incidents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Planning and Preparation:
  • Develop and maintain risk-based emergency response plans, procedures, and protocols. 
  • Identify potential hazards and risks and develop mitigation strategies. 
  • Conduct regular drills and exercises to ensure preparedness. 
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards. 
  • Team Leadership and Management:
  • Supervise and train emergency response personnel. 
  • Assign tasks and responsibilities during emergencies. 
  • Motivate and support team members during stressful situations. 
  • Evaluate performance and provide feedback. 
  • Incident Response:
  • Respond to and manage emergency incidents, ensuring timely and effective action. 
  • Coordinate with other emergency services and agencies. 
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of personnel and the public. 
  • Document incident details and conduct post-incident reviews. 
  • Communication and Coordination:
  • Maintain clear and effective communication during emergencies. 
  • Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders. 
  • Represent the organization in emergency response activities.
  • Other Duties:
  • Maintain records and documentation related to emergency response activities. 
  • Stay informed about current best practices and emerging technologies in emergency response. 
  • Participate in professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge. 
  • Safeguarding Children and Young People (Safeguarding) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI): Understands and puts into practice the responsibilities under Safeguarding and GEI policies and Kurmuk Gold Mine PLC Code of Conduct (CoC), ensuring that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.

  • QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

Education:

  • Degree in Emergency management or related field from a recognised institution

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years' supervisory experience, ideally in emergency response or a related field
  • Proven experience in emergency response operations, including:
    • Vehicle extrication
    • Rope rescue
    • Use of breathing apparatus (SCBA)
    • Firefighting techniques
    • Hazardous materials management
  • Experience as an Emergency Response Team (ERT) Responder is highly beneficial
  • Relevant qualifications in disaster management or emergency services
  • EMT or Paramedic certification and/or experience (advantageous but not essential)
  • Incident Command System (ICS) training (advantageous)
  • Possession of a valid driver’s licence
