Job Summary

The Finance Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operational financial management of the Company. The role ensures effective execution of accounting, reporting, tax compliance, receivables and payables management, bank account operations, and reconciliation functions. The Finance Manager also supervises and mentors the finance team, supports the preparation of interim management reports, assists with the development of annual financial statements, and ensures compliance with financial laws, regulations, and internal policies.

This role plays a pivotal part in maintaining the integrity of financial information, optimizing cash flow, supporting decision-making processes, and ensuring timely delivery of accurate financial reports to management and external stakeholders.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Financial Planning and Operational Management

  • Plan, organize, and coordinate daily financial and budgetary activities in line with organizational policies.

  • Oversee the accurate and timely recording of financial transactions, ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and IFRS/IPSAS.

  • Prepare, review, and monitor the annual budget; analyze variances and provide meaningful explanations and recommendations.

  • Develop and monitor cash flow forecasts, ensuring liquidity is well managed to meet operational needs.

  • Oversee timely settlement of receivables and payables, manage advances, and ensure efficient working capital management.

  • Ensure timely bank deposits, disbursements, and reconciliations while safeguarding financial resources.

  • Monitor and ensure full compliance with tax regulations (VAT, income tax, withholding, etc.) and other statutory obligations.

  • Ensure the financial system (ERP/accounting software) is functioning effectively and supports timely generation of reports.

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and interim management reports to support informed decision-making.

  • Support the GFM in the preparation of annual financial statements and coordination with external auditors.

2. Staff Leadership and Development

  • Supervise, train, mentor, and guide the finance team to ensure high levels of motivation, performance, and professional development.

  • Assign responsibilities, review outputs, and ensure staff adheres to deadlines and standards.

  • Coordinate with HR to implement staff development plans, annual leave schedules, and manpower requirements.

  • Build team capacity to handle new product lines, export markets, and evolving compliance requirements.

  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and innovation within the finance unit.

3. Compliance, Monitoring, and Reporting

  • Monitor departmental performance against plans and budgets, taking corrective measures where necessary.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant financial reporting standards, tax laws, labor laws, and regulatory frameworks.

  • Set and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for financial management, reporting, and service delivery.

  • Evaluate financial risks and recommend mitigation measures to management.

  • Provide regular financial analysis and reports to the GFM and contribute to Board-level reporting when required.

4. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with other departments to support company-wide planning, budgeting, financial scheduling, and resource allocation.

  • Provide financial insights to operational managers to improve efficiency, profitability, and compliance.

  • Support procurement, contracting, and project finance processes by ensuring financial due diligence and compliance with policies.

  • Participate in strategic discussions with the GFM and senior leadership on investment, financing, and growth opportunities.

5. Other Duties

  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors during audits and ensure timely resolution of audit findings.

  • Assist the GFM and Deputy Managing Director in financial negotiations with banks, suppliers, and external stakeholders.

  • Undertake any additional responsibilities assigned by the GFM or executive management.

Remuneration and Compensation: Negotiable based on Qualifications

Qualifications

Education/Training

  • BA in Accounting, Finance, Business Management, or related field (required).

  • MBA/MA in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (preferred).

  • Professional certification (e.g., ACCA, CPA, CIMA) is an advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant financial management experience with a BA, or 8 years with an MBA/MA.

  • Proven track record in operational finance, accounting, and team leadership roles.

  • Prior experience in tax compliance, external audit preparation, and ERP/accounting software implementation is highly desirable.

Technical and Other Skills

  • Strong knowledge of Ethiopian financial regulations, labor laws, and tax requirements.

  • Excellent command of financial reporting standards (IFRS/IPSAS).

  • Ability to manage and optimize cash flow, working capital, and investment options.

  • Demonstrated experience in using ERP/accounting systems (Odoo, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, etc.).

  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills.

  • Excellent leadership, coaching, and people management skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritizes effectively, and meet tight deadlines.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
