1. Introduction
Editors’ Guild of Ethiopia (EGE) is a professional, membership-based association established on October 29, 2019, and officially registered by the FDRE Agency for Civil Society Organizations under registrar number 4527. Its formation was driven by a comprehensive assessment of Ethiopia’s media landscape, which revealed significant structural and institutional gaps; particularly the absence of a dedicated organization representing news editors. As media gatekeepers, editors play a decisive role in shaping content, ensuring ethical standards, and safeguarding professional integrity. However, they often operate under precarious conditions, facing heightened risks of threats, intimidation, and interference. The Guild was thus conceived as a platform to address these vulnerabilities while strengthening editorial leadership as a cornerstone of media freedom.
EGE is seeking proposals from qualified and experienced audit firms to provide external audit services for its annual financial statements and specific project accounts for the fiscal year.

- The audit will ensure that the financial statements and project reports are prepared in all material respects in accordance with the applicable financial reporting framework and comply with the requirements of donors and relevant national laws.

- Relevant EU Audit Standards and Requirements (for specific donor-funded projects)
- The audit shall be carried out in accordance with the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) Code of Ethics and will include such tests and controls as the auditors deem necessary.
The specific tasks will include, but are not limited to:
- Verifying all funds have been used in accordance with the established rules and regulations and only for the purposes for which they were granted.
- Verifying that the financial statements are prepared in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and/or any other applicable framework.
- Examining, on a test basis, evidence supporting the amounts and disclosures in the financial statements.
- Assessing the accounting principles used and significant estimates made by management.
- Evaluating the overall presentation of the financial statements.
- Issuing an Audit Report comprising an opinion on the financial statements and, if required, a separate opinion or report on the project accounts.
