Location: Location/duty station: Benshangul Gumuz, Asosa Zone, Kurmuk Woreda Project Site - Fly In/Fly out roster (6/2weeks)

ABOUT KURMUK GOLD MINE PLC (KGM)

Kurmuk Gold Mine PLC (KGM) is a subsidiary of Allied Gold Corp, a company listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange, with mining operations in multiple countries including Ethiopia, Mali, and Côte d'Ivoire. KGM holds a Large-Scale Gold Mining License and three Exploration Licenses for its Ethiopian project. These licenses are located in western Ethiopia, approximately 750 km from Addis Ababa and about 90 km northwest of Assosa, in the Benishangul-Gumuz Regional State. KGM is currently engaged in both mine development and exploration activities at the site. 

THE ROLE

The successful incumbent will be responsible for proper management of the Survey Section, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficient data collection for mining operations, contributing to the efficient running of the mining operations and ensuring all surveys and plans conform to relevant legislation and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, manage, monitor and coordinate field surveying programs within the survey section.
  • Maintain an effective survey service to provide an efficient support system for mining, engineering, geological, hydrographic and related mine operations and projects. 
  • Establish and maintain a survey control network in the mine lease area.
  • Ensure that mine survey systems and processes are aligned to best practice.
  • Ensure that all survey activities comply with the in-country Mines and/or Minerals legislation and regulations.
  • Ensure all the mine infrastructures are surveyed and the Site Plan kept up to date.
  • Implement, maintain and update all statutory plans.
  • Ensure that survey plans conform to statutory requirements.
  • Interpret the operational and mining strategy to create effective systems and structures.
  • Set requirements for slope monitoring surveys, maintaining accuracy & integrity of related database 
  • Oversee the drafting function of the Survey section, including drafting of blast plans, statutory mine plans, pit plan etc.
  • Ensuring operating conditions that minimise consumable costs where possible; and 
  • Safeguarding Children and Young People (Safeguarding) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI): Understands and puts into practice the responsibilities under Safeguarding and GEI policies and Kurmuk Gold Mine PLC Code of Conduct (CoC), ensuring that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.


General Tasks:

  • Maintain a strong focus on safety protocols and ensure that all survey activities within the mine comply with safety regulations and standards.
  • Monitor and evaluate the standards and quality of work within the section
  • Maintain month end measure database and prepare timeous and accurate reports and reconciliation checks
  • Oversee process to ensure optimal performance of survey equipment 
  • Supervise and ensure that subordinates complete tasks according to set plans and define clear priorities to ensure production continuity 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Education:

  • Grade 12 plus a recognised Bachelor’s / B Tech degree in Surveying / Geomatics / Mineral Resource Management (NQF Level 7) or a recognised National Diploma in Mine or Mineral Surveying / Geomatics (NQF Level 6)

Experience:

  • A minimum of eight years’ survey experience in a mining setting of which three years must be as a Senior Surveyor/Supervisory level

Technical Skills:

  • Proven coaching and mentoring abilities in fostering employee development by enhancing their skills, knowledge, and overall performance. 
  • Skilled in identifying and targeting specific areas for growth, setting clear goals, and creating personalized development plans. 
  • Committed to ensuring full participation in company mentorship and coaching programs to drive employee engagement, growth, and long-term success.
