Mahibere Hiwot for Social Development (MSD) is a non-profit, indigenous civil society organization established in 1999 with the aim of improving the health, wellbeing, and socio-economic status of communities across Ethiopia. Since its inception, MSD has evolved into a leading development and humanitarian organization implementing evidence-based programs that address the diverse needs of vulnerable populations.

MSD's programmatic focus spans multiple sectors, including Health and Nutrition (TB, HIV/AIDS, SRH, MNCH), Education (access to quality education, TVET, and skills development), Social Mobilization and Livelihood (economic strengthening and prevention of HTPs, GBV, and FGM), Migration and Trafficking (safe migration and rehabilitation of returnees and victims), Child Care and Development (child protection, early childhood care, and infant feeding), and Human Rights and Good Governance (democratization, peace building, and dialogue).

In addition, MSD engages in Humanitarian and Emergency Response (supporting disaster-affected and displaced communities) and Environment and Climate Change (promoting environmental sustainability and biodiversity conservation). Through these integrated interventions, MSD works closely with government institutions, community structures, and development partners to foster inclusive growth, equity, and resilience at all levels of society.

MSD is looking for qualified and competent applicants for the following position:

I. JOB SUMMARY

The Deputy Executive Director and Director of Partnership & Communication supports the Executive Director in providing strategic leadership and organizational management. The role primarily focuses on promoting institutional growth, developing and sustaining partnerships, and upholding organizational integrity through the promotion of gender equality and ethical standards.

As a key member of the Senior Management Team (SMT), the DED contributes to strategic decision-making, ensures program quality, and represents the organization at both national and international levels.

I. Key Roles and Responsibilities

1. New Business Development & Resource Mobilization (45%)

  • Lead the design and execution of the organization’s fundraising and resource mobilization strategy.
  • Identify and pursue diverse funding opportunities across bilateral, multilateral, private sector, and foundation sources.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with donors and partners.
  • Oversee proposal development processes, ensuring quality, timeliness, and alignment with strategic priorities to achieve a high success rate.

2. Strategic Communication & Partnerships (25%)

  • Lead the development and implementation of the organization’s communication and partnership strategies.
  • Oversee external communication efforts to maximize visibility and strengthen the organization’s public image and brand.
  • Ensure consistency of messaging across all communication platforms and materials.
  • Manage strategic partnerships, networks, and community engagement initiatives.
  • Represent the organization in national and international forums, coalitions, and stakeholder meetings.

3. Gender Equality, Protection, PSEA, and Safeguarding Leadership (15%)

  • Ensure gender equality, protection, and safeguarding principles are fully integrated across all programs and operations.
  • Oversee the development, enforcement, and regular review of PSEA and safeguarding policies.
  • Lead capacity-building initiatives for staff and partners on gender and protection standards.
  • Serve as the organizational focal point for gender, protection, and safeguarding matters, and represent the organization in related coordination forums.

4. Organizational Strategy, Governance & Leadership Support (10%)

  • Support the Executive Director in strategic planning, governance processes, and policy implementation.
  • Act as the Executive Director when delegated.
  • Strengthen internal systems, promote cross-departmental coordination, and ensure operational efficiency and accountability.

5. Staff Mentorship & Capacity Development (5%)

  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to staff in business development, communication, and safeguarding.
  • Promote a culture of learning, collaboration, and continuous professional development within teams

II. Reporting & Relationships

  • Reports to: Executive Director
  • Supervises: Business Development, Communications, Gender & Safeguarding Units
  • Key Internal Liaison: Program, Finance, and MEAL Teams
  • Key External Liaison: Donors, Government Agencies, INGOs, Corporate Partners, and Networks

III. Success Indicators

  • Increased funding portfolio and diversification of donors.
  • Enhanced visibility and strengthened reputation of the organization at national and international levels.
  • Full institutionalization of gender equality and safeguarding standards across all departments.
  • Strong, value-driven partnerships that yield strategic and financial benefits.
  • Improved staff engagement, leadership capacity, and team performance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/TRAINING

  • MBA/MSc/MPH/ in Communication,Business Management, Public Health or related disciplines 

EXPERIENCE

  • 5/7 years of work experiences in relevant jobs.
