About the Ethiopian Red Cross Society
The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) was established in 1935 and is one of the oldest and largest humanitarian organizations in Ethiopia. ERCS provides services to communities affected by natural and manmade disasters through the provision of emergency responses, ambulance and first aid, family reunification, essential drugs, water and sanitation, and other humanitarian services. ERCS also runs disaster risk reduction programs with the aim of creating resilience households and communities. Currently the ERCS has a structure consisting of 15 Regional Offices, Zonal Branches and District/Woreda Branches, Woreda Red Cross Committee and Kebele Red Cross committees.
ERCS also runs disaster risk reduction programs relating to food security, climate change adaptation, livelihood diversification, and institutional capacity building interventions, with the aim of creating resilience households and communities. ERCS works in partnership with the Ethiopian Government, International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC), International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), partnering National Societies, members, volunteers and the communities we serve.

- Job Summary
Under the general direction and guidance of the Deputy Secretary General for Public Private Partnership, the Director for Business Development & Resource Mobilization is responsible for leading strategic initiatives to expand business opportunities, secure funding, and build sustainable partnerships. The director for Business development and resource mobilization will be responsible for identifying new revenue streams, forging alliances with stakeholders, and driving financial growth through innovative funding strategies. The incumbent will oversee proposal development, donor engagement, and investment strategies while ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission and objectives. Acts as a focal point for all business development, resource mobilization and fundraising/ donation/support enquiries for internal and external stakeholders. Provides fundraising and partnership related expertise and support to concerned work units and branch offices as required and monitors the same. Collaborates and works with pertinent work units to attain resource mobilization goal of the National Society.
- Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Plans, organizes, directs, coordinates and controls the overall resource development, mobilization & utilization functions of the NS in particular new business development, existing business expansion, resource mobilization, fundraising events, donation & Management of IGAs of the NS;
- Coordinate the Preparation and updating of the Resource Development Mobilization and utilization policy, strategy, procedures and guidelines aligned with the purpose/principles of the NS in participation with pertinent stakeholders and ensures enforcement of the same upon approval;
- Coordinate the required support for the development and expansion of new income sources for CCDHS, Pharmaceutical services, and other new income streams; Oversee conducting a thorough assessment of due diligence to assure the appropriateness, competence, and trustworthiness of the partnership;
- Take the lead to promote business development initiatives to ensure the sustainable growth of income of the NS based on contemporary internal and external assessments;
- Initiate the development of proposals to promote investment on development of the NS’s physical resources on Joint venturing (joint development) with public and private partners.
- Takes the lead to increase revenue target set in the NS strategic plan;
- Oversees and coordinate market assessment on the overall business development resource mobilization activities with the view to enhance the competitiveness of the NS
- Coordinate undertakings of business proposals, feasibility study & business plans for possible resource development & mobilization initiatives of specific projects at HQ and branch level;
- Provide technical support and advice to branches to develop and administer IGAs and other Business development schemes;
- Plans & coordinates studies of feasible business venture to be implemented by HQ & branches;
- Manage the establishment, implementation and administration of the ERCS’s Strategic Investment Solidarity Fund;
- Coordinates and links inter-branch business development and fundraising efforts;
- Evaluates the performance of IGAs of the Society and provides feedback on the sustainability of the same;
- Manages & promote system for generating business ideas that ensure the sustainability and growth of the NS based on contemporary internal and external assessments;
- Establishes donor care management system and continually identify new ways of maintaining and improving partner/donor relationship;
- Establishes donors’ intelligence system and Identifies and targets high-value donors;
- Acts as a focal point for all business development, resource mobilization and fundraising/ donation/support enquiries for internal and external stakeholders;
- Coordinate the timely collections of donated resources;
- Take the Lead to Launch national and international fundraising programs, campaigns, and coordinates the effort of regional branches in local resource mobilization;
- Take the lead in Identifying and taking up opportunities to influence corporate prospects’ priorities, through proactive relationship development and peer-to-peer introductions.
- Lead in effort of maximizing the corporate income through stewardship and strategic development of existing and new corporate partners.
- Take the Lead in Identifying and sniff-out valuable opportunities that can attract high-net-worth individuals and companies and act fast to foster new relationship
- Provides fundraising and partnership related expertise and support to concerned work units and branch offices as required;
- Collaborates and works with pertinent work units to attain the fundraising, donation and support solicitation goal
- Prepares and submits regular and extraordinary periodic reports to the DSG- PPP;
Job Specification
- Second/First degree in Business Management, Management, Business Administration, Business Development, Marketing, Economics, Project Management and
- 10/12 years’ relevant work experience out of which 5/7 years’ managerial positions.
