The organization is seeking a Senior Grant Management Advisor to strengthen grant management, compliance, and delivery for our donor-funded projects. The advisor will focus on assessing and improving internal processes, building staff capacity, and ensuring responsible management and timely reporting of funds.
Job Objective
The primary objective is to significantly improve country programme grant management, compliance, and delivery for large donor-funded projects.
Specific objectives include:
- Achieving efficient, compliant, and timely close-out of one large donor-funded project due to close in Q1 2026.
- Improving financial management, compliance with MSI and donor policies, and ensuring forecasting and spending are within the variance set by donors.
- Ensuring grant-funded initiatives are executed smoothly, funds are managed responsibly, and reporting requirements are met.
III. Key Roles and Responsibilities (Tasks)
The Senior Grant Management Advisor will be responsible for the following key activities:
A. Grant and Project Management Strengthening
- Assess current ways of working within country programme teams and evaluate the grant/project management skills of team members supporting donor-funded projects.
- Provide detailed recommendations and support the implementation of structural and process improvements to achieve long-lasting change and improved management.
- Work closely with the Senior Grant Manager, Project Manager, and MEL Manager to plan and execute project activities, ensuring delivery aligns with the results framework, work plans, and budget forecasts.
- Support the development and updating of key project deliverables, such as reforecasts and project reports, ensuring they are timely and meet a high standard.
B. Compliance, Financial Management, and Closeout
- Ensure improved financial management, adherence to MSI and donor policies, and strict compliance with donor regulations.
- Oversee and ensure the efficient, compliant, and timely closeout process for the large donor-funded project closing in Q1 2026.
- Use strong data analysis skills to review project performance, spending, and reporting requirements, ensuring budget utilization is in line with forecasts.
C. Capacity Building and Reporting
- Provide training and mentoring to MSIE staff on the full Project Cycle Management (PCM), including project monitoring, forecasting, reporting, and closeout.
- Collaborate on and co-deliver project deliverables as outlined in grant agreements with other team members.
- Apply strong Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) experience to support the development and updating of MEAL frameworks.
- Work with the grant manager to produce a written report on the structural and training needs assessment and develop a training plan.
- Apply excellent report writing skills to write and edit donor reports and/or proposals.
IV. Required Skills and Experience
The successful candidate will be a single, full-time consultant with the following profile:
A. Experience and Knowledge
- Demonstrated strong administrative, finance, and program management experience.
- Proven experience in leading and managing multi-donor projects in the area of public health (specifically SRH/FP, which is desirable).
- In-depth knowledge of donor regulations, policies, and procedures, with a specific preference for experience with Gates and GAC (Global Affairs Canada).
- Demonstrated experience in strong donor management and relations.
- Understanding of, and ability to write and edit high-quality donor reports and/or proposals.
B. Competencies
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective cross-functional collaboration.
- Ability to work closely with various team members, including Project Managers, M&E Managers, and Area Managers.
- Professional proficiency in written and spoken English is essential.
