Job Description

We are seeking an experienced, strategic, and relationship-driven General Manager to lead the AmCham Ethiopia’s operations and deliver measurable value to our members.

The General Manager is the senior operational leader of the AmCham in Ethiopia, responsible for driving membership growth, enhancing member services, strengthening partnerships, and ensuring the effective delivery of events, programs, and advocacy initiatives. This role requires a confident communicator, a proactive business leader, and someone who can represent the AmCham at the highest levels with professionalism and impact.

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting to AmCham Ethiopia Board:

  • Manage day to day affairs of the chamber and staff 

  • Implement the policies and goals of the Chamber as prescribed by the Board 

  • Maintain contact with Chamber members, local and other international Chambers of Commerce, to include rendering counseling and training services to members

  • Collate and disseminate to members information on issues that affect or promote their Businesses

  • Develop/implement value add events aligned to the needs of members – create a sustainable revenue generating channel

  • Develop and maintain contact with organizations and institutions promoting business relationships between Ethiopia and the United States

  • Manage recruitment of new members, retention of current members

  • Interact with government officials, diplomats to promote the interest of the members

  • Develop Chamber budget, manage revenue, expenses and disbursements 

  • Ensure completion of timely financial audit each year 

  • Promote activities of the Chamber and seek new members

  • Manage the production and publication of the Chamber’s newsletter, website, and any other publication 

  • Implement priorities as agreed by the general assembly and the board

Candidate Profile

  • Proven experience in senior management, ideally within a chamber of commerce, trade association, business council, or international business environment.

  • Strong understanding of US business culture and international trade.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to build networks and foster partnerships.

  • Strong organizational, financial management, and project leadership skills.
