BACKGROUND
Kurmuk Gold Mine PLC (KGM), a subsidiary of Allied Gold Corp., a publicly listed company on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX), is engaged in gold mining operations across multiple countries, including Ethiopia, Mali, and Côte d'Ivoire. KGM operates with a Large-Scale Gold Mining License and holds three contiguous Exploration Licenses for its project in Ethiopia.
The project is strategically located in western Ethiopia, approximately 750 km from Addis Ababa and about 90 km northwest of Assosa, within the Benishangul-Gumuz Regional State. KGM is actively involved in both mine development and exploration activities at the site.
Purpose of the Job
The Import, Logistics & Data Management Officer oversees the import process, ensures compliance with customs regulations, coordinates logistics operations, and manages import-related data and documentation for efficient decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
Import & Logistics Management:
- Review and verify shipping documents for accuracy and completeness.
- Handle online applications and approvals from INSA, Ministry of Trade, ECA, and Ministry of Mines, Ministry of Finance etc.
- Coordinate shipment arrivals, document collection, and customs clearance.
- Work closely with clearing agents, ensuring compliance with customs regulations and tariff classifications.
- Monitor and resolve pending cases with customs, EFDA, MOF, and MOM.
- Oversee the dispatch of shipments from Addis Ababa to KGM site.
Data & Compliance Management:
- Maintain accurate and organized records of shipments, customs declarations, and import-related expenses.
- Ensure timely and accurate data entry into NetSuite for purchase orders and payments.
- Develop and maintain a centralized database for tracking lead times, costs, and shipment statuses.
- Generate and analyze logistics reports on demurrage, transportation expenses, and customs duties.
- Stay updated on regulatory changes and ensure compliance with new customs and finance regulations.
- Implement data validation procedures to minimize errors in import and logistics documentation.
- Respond to customs queries and prepare official letters related to import and logistics operations.
Safety & Compliance:
- Conduct daily inspections and report any safety concerns.
- Ensure compliance with PPE and workplace safety regulations.
- Properly handle and document hazardous material disposal.
Work Environment & Travel:
- Office Work: 70%
- Field Work: 30%
Key requirements:
Qualifications, Experience and Skills:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Procurement, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 4 years in logistics, imports, supply chain, or data management roles.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of import regulations and logistics coordination.
- Proficiency in data management and ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite).
- Ability to analyze data and generate meaningful logistics reports.
- Fluency in English (reading, writing, and speaking).
