Position Overview
The Warehouse Inventory Control & Audit Manager is responsible for planning, managing, and strengthening inventory control, audit, quality assurance, and cost efficiency functions across Safe Zone Logistics’ bonded warehouse, cargo handling, and passenger-related logistics operations at Bole International Airport.
This senior role focuses on ensuring precise material and inventory accuracy, strict compliance with Ethiopian Customs Commission regulations and bonded warehouse standards, robust fraud and theft prevention, loss minimization, and continuous process optimization in a high-security, fast-paced airport logistics environment. The position supports the General Manager in audits, risk management, performance oversight, and operational improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, manage, and strengthen inventory control, audit, quality assurance, and cost efficiency functions.
- Oversee daily, weekly, and monthly inventory counts, reconcile WMS records with physical stock, investigate discrepancies, and enforce corrective and preventive actions.
- Lead and conduct independent audits of inbound and outbound cargo and passenger-service logistics, ensuring compliance with internal SOPs, Ethiopian Customs Commission regulations, customs requirements, and bonded warehouse standards.
- Identify, prevent, and investigate fraud and theft, implementing appropriate controls and corrective actions to mitigate risks.
- Create, structure, and designate operational and audit teams in coordination with the General Manager to execute inventory control, inspection, compliance, and efficiency tasks across cargo and passenger service areas.
- Develop, document, and continuously improve quality control manuals, audit checklists, SOPs, and process workflows covering cargo acceptance, storage, segregation, delivery, passenger-related logistics handling, and documentation controls.
- Lead business process re-engineering (BPR) initiatives to streamline workflows, eliminate gaps, reduce losses, improve turnaround time, and strengthen internal controls.
- Identify, implement, and monitor cost-saving initiatives across operational, inventory control, and audit functions.
- Maintain complete and accurate documentation, including GRNs, airway bills, customs declarations, bond registers, stock cards, audit reports, variance logs, investigation records, and quality control manuals.
- Manage, train, and supervise inventory control and audit staff, ensuring SOP compliance and accountability.
- Coordinate closely with operations, customs, security, passenger service teams, and airline stakeholders.
- Assist the General Manager as required on audits, investigations, risk mitigation, performance reviews, process improvements, fraud and theft prevention, and cost efficiency initiatives, reporting findings and recommendations directly to him.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Materials Management, Inventory Control, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in material/inventory control, warehouse auditing, quality assurance, and compliance management—ideally in bonded warehousing, airport cargo operations, freight forwarding, or regulated logistics environments.
- Deep understanding of Ethiopian Customs Commission regulations, bonded warehouse procedures, customs clearance processes, and international material handling standards.
- Proven hands-on expertise with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), ERP inventory modules, physical stock reconciliation, discrepancy root-cause analysis, and audit documentation.
- Strong leadership experience supervising teams in high-compliance, security-sensitive settings (airport or bonded facility experience highly valued).
- Excellent analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for inventory trend analysis, variance reporting, and performance metrics.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken); Amharic proficiency is a strong advantage.
- Demonstrated success in leading process re-engineering (BPR), implementing cost-saving measures, and developing fraud/loss-prevention programs in material and inventory operations.
- High level of integrity, meticulous attention to detail, and ability to perform under strict regulatory oversight and time pressure.
