Brothers of Good Works Women Empowerment Center (BGW-WEC) is a faith-based organization committed to empowering vulnerable and marginalized communities, with a particular focus on women. The organization works with people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS, orphaned youth, children and youth with disabilities and their families, returnees from migration, Female Sex Workers and in-school children and adolescents to empower , them through training, counseling, education, and socio-economic interventions. Promoting inclusion by reducing stigma and discrimination among these groups is central to our mission.

We are now inviting qualified and motivated individuals to apply for the following vacant positions.

General Description

The main role of the position is to care and support women (women returnees of migration, FSWs, caregivers, women living with HIV) and children under their care through education, counseling, training and recommendations including referrals to health facilities for diagnosis and treatment. The counselor is responsible to undertake activities of the health and psychosocial unit as in stated to enable children/youth and their caregivers experience improved quality of life in the domains of health, emotional satisfaction, livelihood conditions, etc. S/he is responsible to work in close collaboration with the coordinator of the department and other staff of the WEC as required.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

General

  • Conducts needs assessment of PLHIV in order to identify the needs; recommends clients for admission to the program
  • Ensures that each client has an empowerment plan; follows up the empowerment plans and carries out the evaluations in time;
  • Develops programs, trainings and materials in order to support the clients
  • Co-responsible and works in coordination with the staff of the economic empowerment unit in areas such as developing and evaluating empowerment plans, assessment for admission of clients, discharge, group meetings, etc.
  • Is responsible for the quality of the activities carried out by the unit;
  • Makes arrangements to meet stakeholders in line with the department’s/unit’s activity as required;
  • Makes arrangements for phasing in into new catchment areas and phasing out of clients from the services

Counselling

  • Conducts individual, group, family and couple counseling at the center or at home of client; including pre & post HIV test and adherence counseling and counseling about disclosure of status.
  • Conducts counseling of clients to help them to cope with positive/negative diagnosis of HIV; works towards reducing (self)stigma and discrimination related to HIV;
  • Makes regular home visits for supervision of volunteer caregivers, and to follow up of health and psychosocial condition of client, to assess needs and to solve problems;
  • Treats minor health problems of clients and orphaned children;
  • Facilitates referral to health centers, hospitals and other organizations for services that are not available in the Center;
  • Conducts neighborhood coffee ceremonies to fight stigma and discrimination towards people living with HIV and as well towards returnees of migration;
  • Trains community caregivers as required;

Monitoring and evaluation; Reports and filing:

  • Prepares detail action plan for the unit and works to achieve the plan;
  • Is responsible for proper filing system and proper record keeping of activities.
  • Collects data and compiles and helps to prepare reports for relevant agencies, including government and donors.
  • Monitors and evaluates activities of the health and psychosocial unit.
  • Participates in monitoring and evaluation activities of the center as a whole.
  • Acts according the empowerment plan cycle.

Salary: As per organization salary scale

Job Requirements:

Education/training

  • Diploma or Degree of Bachelor of Science in Nursing or related field from recognized College or University;
  • Additional certification in PMTCT, ART, STI, VCT/HCT, and Life Skills is a plus;

Experience:

  • Minimum of 4/2 years of experience in the specified areas, preferably in community-based settings or working with vulnerable populations (e.g., HIV/AIDS-affected individuals, people with disabilities, or marginalized communities).

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong understanding of public health issues, particularly HIV/AIDS, sexual and reproductive health, life skills education, and related health topics.
  • Familiarity with community-based approaches, including working with key and priority population groups (e.g., commercial sex workers, youth, etc.).
  • Ability to develop and adapt IEC (Information, Education, and Communication) materials, training guidelines, and manuals.
  • Knowledge of behavior change communication (BCC) strategies and techniques.
  • Excellent facilitation and public speaking skills for leading trainings, workshops, and group discussions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in diverse community settings.
