ABY Manufacturing PLC is a newly emerged manufacturing company engaged in the production of range of chemicals, located on Addis Ababa Bole Lemi Economic zone, would like to invite competent and qualified applicants for the job position here under: -
Position: Cost and Budget Section Head
Place of work: Addis Ababa City, Bole Lemi Economic Zone
Employment Type: Full-Time
Salary: Negotiable.
Deadline: Seven consecutive working days from date of this announcement.
About You
Key Responsibilities includes: -
A. Cost Accounting & Product Costing
Develop, maintain and periodically review standard and actual costing methodologies for manufactured products.
Calculate and validate product costs covering raw materials, packaging, direct labour, utilities, manufacturing overhead, depreciation and other relevant production costs.
Maintain and review Bills of Materials (BOMs), routings, standard quantities, standard prices and other cost master data in the ERP system.
Perform cost roll-ups and ensure standard costs are updated based on approved assumptions and changes in input prices or production processes.
Analyze unit manufacturing cost by product, SKU, production line, plant, batch or other relevant cost object.
Ensure appropriate allocation of manufacturing overheads using logical and consistently applied cost drivers.
Review inventory valuation and production cost postings in coordination with Financial Accounting and Supply Chain/Operations.
Identify abnormal production losses, wastage, yield variances, idle capacity and other cost inefficiencies.
Support management in product profitability analysis, pricing decisions, make-or-buy analysis and product mix decisions.
B. Budget Preparation & Planning
Coordinate the annual budgeting process across departments and ensure submission of complete and properly supported budgets.
Develop the detailed budget calendar, templates, assumptions and submission requirements.
Prepare and consolidate operating budgets, production budgets, material consumption budgets, labor budgets, overhead budgets, CAPEX budgets and cash-flow inputs as assigned.
Review departmental budgets for reasonableness, completeness, consistency and alignment with company objectives.
Develop budget assumptions based on production volumes, sales forecasts, input prices, inflation, labor costs, capacity and operational plans.
Prepare the annual budget, periodic reforecasts and rolling forecasts for management review.
Maintain a clear link between operational plans, production volumes, resource requirements, cost assumptions and financial results.
C. Budgetary Control & Variance Analysis
Monitor actual performance against approved budgets and prepare monthly budget-versus-actual analysis.
Analyze material, labor, overhead, production volume, yield, efficiency, purchase price and other significant variances.
Prepare variance explanations with clear financial and operational root causes.
Work with budget owners to identify corrective actions and follow up implementation.
Establish appropriate thresholds for significant variances and escalate material exceptions to the Finance Manager.
Track cost-saving initiatives and quantify realized financial benefits.
D. Manufacturing Cost Control
Monitor manufacturing costs against production volumes and approved standards.
Analyze material usage and purchase price variances, production yield, wastage, scrap and rework.
Review conversion costs including direct labor, utilities, maintenance and production overheads.
Coordinate with Production, Warehouse, Procurement and Engineering to investigate unusual cost movements.
Support cycle counts and physical inventory processes from a costing and financial-control perspective.
Review production reports and reconcile production quantities, material consumption and cost information with the ERP records.
E. Management Reporting
Prepare timely monthly cost and budget performance reports for the Finance Manager and senior management.
Prepare product, customer, channel, plant or business-unit profitability analysis as required.
Develop concise management commentary highlighting major cost movements, risks, opportunities and recommended actions.
Provide financial analysis for management decisions, including pricing, capacity utilization, product profitability and cost reduction.
Maintain a reliable monthly cost reporting timetable and ensure all reports are supported by reconciled data.
F. Financial Modelling & Decision Support
Develop financial models for product costing, pricing, profitability, sensitivity analysis and operational scenarios.
Prepare what-if analysis for changes in raw material prices, production volumes, exchange rates, utilities, labor and overhead costs.
Support business cases for new products, production lines, capital investments and process improvements.
Evaluate contribution margin, break-even points and operating leverage where required.
G. ERP, Data & Internal Control
Ensure cost and budget master data is accurate, complete and properly authorized in the ERP system.
Participate in ERP implementation, enhancement and user acceptance testing related to costing, budgeting, inventory and manufacturing modules.
Develop and maintain cost and budget procedures, controls, templates and reporting formats.
Ensure segregation of duties, authorization controls and audit trails are maintained within the cost and budget processes.
Identify system and process weaknesses and recommend practical improvements.
H. Audit, Compliance & Governance
Provide supporting schedules and explanations for internal and external audits relating to costing, inventory, budgets and manufacturing overheads.
Ensure costing practices are consistent with company accounting policies and applicable financial reporting requirements.
Maintain proper documentation for key costing assumptions, allocations, standards, budget approvals and variance analyses.
Support Finance Manager in implementing recommendations arising from audits and management reviews.
I. Team Leadership
Supervise, coach and develop staff assigned to the Cost and Budget Section.
Set clear work plans, deadlines and performance expectations.
Review the quality and accuracy of staff outputs before submission to the Finance Manager.
Promote disciplined documentation, analytical thinking and timely reporting.
Identify training needs and support continuous improvement of the finance team.
KEY DELIVERABLES / OUTPUTS
Accurate and regularly updated product cost sheets and standard costs.
Annual operating and CAPEX budgets consolidated within the approved timetable.
Monthly budget-versus-actual reports with clear variance explanations.
Monthly manufacturing cost and product profitability analysis.
Material, labor, overhead, yield and production efficiency variance reports.
Rolling forecasts and financial scenarios as requested by management.
Cost-saving and efficiency improvement reports with quantified financial impact.
Reliable costing and budget master data in the ERP system.
Audit-ready supporting schedules and documentation
Job Requirements
EXPECTED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Management, Economics or a closely related field.
Professional accounting qualification such as ACCA, CPA, CIMA, Ethiopian professional accounting certification, or equivalent is strongly preferred.
A Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a related field is an advantage.
Minimum 6–8 years of relevant experience in cost accounting, management accounting, budgeting, financial planning or manufacturing finance.
At least 2–3 years of experience in a supervisory, senior accountant or section-head capacity.
Practical experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably with responsibility for product costing and factory cost control.
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
Strong knowledge of management accounting, standard costing, absorption costing, variance analysis and budgeting.
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, BOMs, material consumption, production yields, wastage, labor and factory overheads.
Experience in product costing and profitability analysis.
Good understanding of inventory accounting and manufacturing cost flows.
Working knowledge of IFRS and relevant accounting principles applicable to inventory and cost recognition.
Strong Excel skills, including PivotTables, SUMIFS, XLOOKUP/INDEX-MATCH, data analysis and financial modelling.
Practical experience with ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, Microsoft Dynamics NAV, SAP or equivalent.
Ability to build and maintain budget models, cost models and management reporting dashboards.
Experience in preparing management reports and presenting financial analysis to senior management.
