About the Organization
Ethiopian Diabetes Association (EDA), established in 1984 and registered under the Ministry of Justice, is a national NGO with over 90,000 members across 94 branches. For four decades, EDA has worked to improve the lives of people affected by diabetes through education, prevention, care, and access to medicines and technologies. The association supports disadvantaged groups, including 18,500 children and young adults with type 1 diabetes through partnerships with partners, providing free insulin and monitoring supplies, while also assisting adults with type II diabetes through donor support. Currently, by broadening its support, EDA is implementing a large-scale nationwide NCD care program.
EDA collaborates closely with government ministries, regulatory agencies, hospitals, and international partners to advance diabetes education, strengthen healthcare capacity, promote affordable medicines and technologies, and empower communities through integrated projects, research, and economic initiatives. Guided by values of transparency, equity, accountability, and excellence, EDA envisions becoming a center of excellence for diabetes prevention, education, care, and treatment in Ethiopia.
