GESI, Safeguarding & Disability Inclusion Specialist – Short-Term Consultancy
BCaD Consulting Management PLC is seeking a highly qualified Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI), Safeguarding and Disability Inclusion Specialist to join a multidisciplinary consulting team being proposed for an upcoming development assignment focused on entrepreneurship, business skills, financial literacy, and inclusive training-material development for rural youth and vulnerable groups in Ethiopia.
The assignment involves the review, redesign, development, validation and finalization of competency-based training materials designed for rural young women and men, persons with disabilities, returnees, internally displaced persons, young mothers and other vulnerable groups.
Key Responsibilities
The Specialist will be expected to:
Lead the integration of Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) throughout the training curriculum and learning materials.
Ensure systematic integration of disability inclusion and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles.
Mainstream safeguarding, Do-No-Harm, protection and ethical participation principles throughout the assignment.
Assess barriers affecting the participation and learning of rural women, persons with disabilities, young mothers, returnees, IDPs and other vulnerable groups.
Provide guidance on reasonable accommodation and accessible training approaches.
Review trainer guides, participant workbooks, case studies, exercises, illustrations, job aids and digital-learning materials from a GESI, safeguarding and accessibility perspective.
Support the development of inclusive and low-literacy-friendly training-delivery approaches.
Participate in stakeholder consultations, focus-group discussions, pilot testing and validation workshops.
Contribute to the development of the GESI, accessibility, safeguarding and meaningful-participation components of the inception report and other project deliverables.
Review learning materials to ensure they avoid gender stereotypes, discrimination, exclusion and unintended safeguarding risks.
Support quality assurance of final learning products.
Job Requirements
Required Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should preferably have:
A master's degree or higher in Gender Studies, Sociology, Social Development, Development Studies, Disability Studies, Social Work, Human Rights, Psychology, Education or another relevant discipline.
Preferably 8–10 years or more of relevant professional experience in gender equality, social inclusion, safeguarding, disability inclusion or related development work.
Demonstrated experience integrating GESI into training curricula, manuals, learning materials or capacity-development programmes.
Practical experience working with women, youth, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable or marginalized populations.
Demonstrated knowledge of safeguarding and Do-No-Harm principles.
Knowledge of disability-inclusive development and preferably Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and reasonable accommodation.
Experience with participatory research, stakeholder consultation, FGDs, training-material review, pilot testing and/or validation workshops.
Experience working in rural development, livelihoods, entrepreneurship, youth employment, agriculture or economic-empowerment programmes will be a strong advantage.
Previous experience with international development organizations, UN agencies, bilateral/multilateral programmes, international NGOs or major donor-funded projects will be advantageous.
Excellent analytical, facilitation and report-writing skills in English.
Knowledge of Ethiopian languages and familiarity with Ethiopia's rural development context are highly desirable.
Assignment Nature
This is a short-term consultancy assignment expected to be implemented as part of a multidisciplinary team with intermittent expert input based on the agreed work plan.
