About the Program
The Global Communities Food for Progress (FFPr) 2025, Partnership for Productivity (P4P) Project in Ethiopia, is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). This five-year initiative is focusing on enhancing and strengthening of the livestock market systems in Ethiopia. The project aims to make the livestock sectors more productive, resilient, and profitable, thereby driving economic growth in the country.
P4P utilizes five integrated interventions that will be implemented in collaboration with both
US and Ethiopian private sector stakeholders. The interventions include:
Increase Use of Improved Agricultural Techniques and Technologies: Promote the adoption of advanced techniques and technologies to enhance agriculture and livestock productivity.
Increase Availability of Quality Inputs: Ensure Ethiopian farmers have access to high-quality agricultural/livestock inputs.
Trade Capacity Development: Support efforts to improve trade opportunities within the livestock market systems and value chains.
Increase Access to Finance and Risk Management: Expand availability to financial and risk management services to livestock producers.
Policy and Advocacy: Support policy and institutional reforms to create and expand market access for quality livestock production inputs and technologies needed by Ethiopian farmers.
The Opportunity
Are you passionate about strengthening livestock market systems and promoting sustainable development outcomes in Ethiopia? We are seeking one Market System Analyst for the Oromia Region to lead the implementation of market linkage interventions across the poultry, beef, dairy, and sheep and goat value chains. Reporting to the Senior Market System Analyst, you will work closely with public and private sector stakeholders
to identify opportunities, address market constraints, and strengthen linkages between producers, buyers, and other market actors. Through fostering partnerships and supporting market-based solutions, you will contribute to improved market performance, private sector engagement, and sustainable impact at the regional level.
Key Responsibilities
The Regional Market System Analyst will oversee market linkage interventions within the respective region to foster strong relationships and trust among producers, traders, processors, and service providers. The specialist will facilitate communication, partnerships, and both horizontal and vertical integration among producer groups, traders, aggregators, processors, and service providers to improve the availability and utilization of agricultural inputs, technologies, and services across poultry, beef, dairy, and sheep and goat value chains.
Primary Responsibilities
Facilitate market linkages among producers and producer organizations (e.g., poultry farms, dairy farmers, feedlots, milk collection and marketing cooperatives, producer groups, and unions), buyers (traders, aggregators, exporters, processors, etc.), and service providers (private veterinary pharmacies, feed mills, artificial insemination companies, financial institutions, insurance providers, feed suppliers, etc.).
Provide regular technical support, monitoring, and follow-up to livestock and livestock product traders, aggregators, processors, and input suppliers (including veterinary, feed, and animal genetics service providers such as AI companies), ensuring timely and accurate data collection, updating, reporting, and documentation using project-developed tools.
Collaborate with partners such as AfriScout and Heifer International at the regional level to integrate livestock market systems with market information, digital solutions, and access-to-finance interventions.
Support market systems assessments and updates, evidence generation for policy and regulatory engagement, and indicator tracking and reporting in close collaboration with the MEL team.
Support the organization and implementation of regional-level training, field demonstrations, trade fairs, learning events, and stakeholder engagement platforms.
Contribute to quarterly and biannual project reporting, annual work planning processes, and project learning and reflection sessions.
Serve as one of the regional focal persons for communications, coordination, and partnerships, representing the P4P project in the respective region.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Qualifications
BSc degree with a minimum of 10 years of relevant practical experience, or MSc degree with at least 5 years of relevant experience in livestock production, agricultural economics, agribusiness, agricultural extension, or related fields.
Demonstrated technical expertise in Market Systems Development (MSD), private sector engagement, and cooperative development and management.
Proven experience in building strong relationships and trust among private sector actors, livestock producers, cooperatives, and public institutions.
Strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities within poultry, dairy, beef, and sheep and goat value chains in Ethiopia, particularly within the target regions.
Experience working with donor-funded livestock development and marketing projects, preferably in the target regions, with prior experience in USAID and /or USDA funded projects considered an advantage.
