Job Summary

The Plant Manager will have overall responsibility for the day-to-day management and operational performance of the plant. This includes production, maintenance coordination, quality, safety, manpower, equipment utilization, cost control, and operational planning.

The position requires a strong leader with practical experience in steel manufacturing, metal processing, manufacturing, or a similar industrial environment, with the ability to coordinate production and technical teams and continuously improve plant performance.

 Key Responsibilities

Plant Operations Management

  • Oversee the overall day-to-day operation of the plant.

  • Ensure production activities are conducted efficiently and according to approved plans.

  • Develop and implement operational plans to achieve production targets.

  • Monitor plant performance and identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Ensure effective utilization of machinery, equipment, raw materials, manpower, and other resources.

  • Coordinate production activities to minimize downtime and operational interruptions.

  • Ensure smooth coordination between production, maintenance, quality, warehouse, procurement, and other departments.

 Production Planning and Control

  • Develop production schedules in coordination with relevant departments.

  • Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly production performance.

  • Ensure production targets are achieved within planned timelines.

  • Monitor production efficiency, machine utilization, material consumption, and operational costs.

  • Identify production bottlenecks and implement corrective actions.

  • Analyze production performance and provide regular reports to management.

Maintenance Coordination

  • Work closely with mechanical and electrical maintenance teams to ensure equipment reliability.

  • Ensure preventive maintenance programs are properly implemented.

  • Monitor equipment breakdowns, downtime, and maintenance performance.

  • Support root-cause analysis of recurring equipment failures.

  • Coordinate planned plant shutdowns and major maintenance activities.

  • Ensure critical spare parts and maintenance requirements are properly identified and communicated.

Quality Management

  • Ensure production processes meet established quality requirements and company standards.

  • Work closely with the quality-control team to identify and resolve quality problems.

  • Monitor production defects, rework, wastage, and customer-related quality issues.

  • Promote continuous improvement in product quality and production processes.

  • Ensure employees follow approved operating procedures and quality standards.

Health, Safety and Environmental Management

  • Promote a strong safety culture throughout the plant.

  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies and applicable workplace safety requirements.

  • Ensure employees use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

  • Identify workplace hazards and ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented.

  • Investigate and follow up on workplace incidents and accidents.

  • Ensure proper housekeeping and safe working conditions throughout the plant.

  • Support environmental protection and responsible waste-management practices.

 Cost and Resource Management

  • Monitor production costs and identify opportunities for cost reduction.

  • Control material waste, energy consumption, overtime, and other operational expenses.

  • Ensure efficient utilization of raw materials and production resources.

  • Review operational expenses and recommend cost-saving measures.

  • Support annual budgeting and operational planning.

Leadership and People Management

  • Lead, motivate, and develop plant employees and supervisors.

  • Establish clear responsibilities and performance expectations for plant teams.

  • Monitor employee performance and productivity.

  • Identify training and development requirements.

  • Promote teamwork, discipline, accountability, and professional conduct.

  • Resolve operational and workplace issues effectively.

  • Build strong cooperation between technical, production, and support teams.

Reporting and Performance Analysis

  • Prepare regular plant performance reports for senior management.

  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), including

  • Production output

  • Production efficiency

  • Machine utilization

  • Equipment downtime

  • Material consumption

  • Product quality

  • Production cost

  • Waste and rejection rates

  • Safety performance

  • Analyze operational data and recommend corrective and preventive actions.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve production processes and plant efficiency.

  • Implement appropriate process-improvement initiatives.

  • Reduce waste, downtime, defects, and unnecessary operational costs.

  • Encourage employees to identify and report improvement opportunities.

  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Production Engineering, or a related field.

  • A Master's degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Business Administration, or a related field is an advantage.

  • Significant professional experience in plant management, production management, or industrial operations.

  • Previous experience in a steel manufacturing, metal processing, manufacturing, or heavy industrial environment is highly desirable.

  • Proven experience managing multidisciplinary technical and production teams.

  • Strong understanding of production processes, machinery, maintenance, quality, and industrial safety.

Experience managing production teams, mechanical and electrical maintenance coordination, plant shutdowns, production planning, quality control, and industrial safety will be an advantage.
