The Role

CAE is seeking an enthusiastic, qualified, and experienced Primary School Librarian to manage and develop the Primary and Early Years library. The successful candidate will foster a love of reading, support inquiry-based learning, and collaborate closely with teachers to ensure the library is a welcoming, well-organised, and inclusive learning hub aligned with the British curriculum.

Job Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Library and Information Science, Education, English, or a related field.

  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of relevant school library experience, preferably in a primary or international school setting.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the Primary and Early Years library.

  • Develop and maintain the library catalogue, classification, and circulation systems.

  • Select, acquire, organise, and maintain age-appropriate books and digital resources.

  • Promote reading for pleasure through displays, reading challenges, author visits, book fairs, and storytelling.

  • Collaborate with teachers to support curriculum topics, research skills, and information literacy.

  • Teach library and research skills to students across Primary and Early Years.

  • Support Early Years with story time and early literacy development.

  • Maintain accurate records, budgets, and inventories for library resources.

  • Manage library assistants and volunteers where applicable.

  • Ensure safeguarding and child protection practices are followed within the library.

  • Communicate effectively with parents, staff, and external vendors.

  • Prepare reports on library usage, resource needs, and reading development.

  • Ensure the library environment is welcoming, safe, and conducive to learning.

  • Familiarity with library software such as Oliver, Accelerated Reader, or similar systems.
