About Us

Ethiopian Muslims Relief and Development association (EMRDA) is a non-profit organization committed to improving lives of communities in peripheral areas through integrated development programs in health, education, livelihoods, peace building, climate change and humanitarian response. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Program Director to provide strategic leadership and oversight of our multi-sector program portfolio.

Position Summary

The Program Director will provide overall leadership, strategic direction, and management oversight for the organization's programs across multiple sectors, ensuring high-quality, evidence-based, and impactful implementation. The successful candidate will lead a multidisciplinary team, spearhead donor resources mobilization, drive program design and growth, and ensure strong coordination with donors, government counterparts, and partner organizations.

Core Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and technical leadership for the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of multi-sector programs (health, education, peace building, climate change & livelihoods, WASH, protection, humanitarian response).

  • Ensure programs are implemented in line with organizational strategy, donor requirements, and international best practices.

  • Lead program planning processes, including annual work plans, budgets, and performance frameworks.

  • Supervise and mentor program managers and technical leads across sectors, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous learning.

  • Oversee grant and budget management to ensure efficient, compliant, and timely utilization of resources.

  • Lead new business development, including proposal design, resource mobilization, and partnership building.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Master's degree in Social Sciences, Management, Public Health, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive experience managing multi-sector development and/or humanitarian programs, with at least 3–5 years in a senior leadership role.

  • Demonstrated experience designing, managing, and overseeing programs across multiple sectors (e.g., health, education, climate change, livelihoods, peace building, protection, WASH, emergency response).

  • Proven track record in successful proposal development and donor grant management (e.g.EU, UN agencies, or similar institutional donors).

  • Strong experience in budget management, financial oversight, and compliance.

  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing multidisciplinary teams in complex operating environments.

  • Solid understanding of program monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning (MEAL) systems.

  • Experience engaging with government counterparts, donors, and partner organizations at a senior level.

  • Familiarity with the local context and operating environment is an advantage.

  • Fluency in English required; knowledge of local languages beyond Amharic is an added advantage.
