About Us
Ethiopian Muslims Relief and Development association (EMRDA) is a non-profit organization committed to improving lives of communities in peripheral areas through integrated development programs in health, education, livelihoods, peace building, climate change and humanitarian response. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Program Director to provide strategic leadership and oversight of our multi-sector program portfolio.
Position Summary
The Program Director will provide overall leadership, strategic direction, and management oversight for the organization's programs across multiple sectors, ensuring high-quality, evidence-based, and impactful implementation. The successful candidate will lead a multidisciplinary team, spearhead donor resources mobilization, drive program design and growth, and ensure strong coordination with donors, government counterparts, and partner organizations.
Core Responsibilities
Provide strategic and technical leadership for the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of multi-sector programs (health, education, peace building, climate change & livelihoods, WASH, protection, humanitarian response).
Ensure programs are implemented in line with organizational strategy, donor requirements, and international best practices.
Lead program planning processes, including annual work plans, budgets, and performance frameworks.
Supervise and mentor program managers and technical leads across sectors, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous learning.
Oversee grant and budget management to ensure efficient, compliant, and timely utilization of resources.
Lead new business development, including proposal design, resource mobilization, and partnership building.
Job Requirements
Required Qualifications and Experience
Master's degree in Social Sciences, Management, Public Health, or a related field.
Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive experience managing multi-sector development and/or humanitarian programs, with at least 3–5 years in a senior leadership role.
Demonstrated experience designing, managing, and overseeing programs across multiple sectors (e.g., health, education, climate change, livelihoods, peace building, protection, WASH, emergency response).
Proven track record in successful proposal development and donor grant management (e.g.EU, UN agencies, or similar institutional donors).
Strong experience in budget management, financial oversight, and compliance.
Demonstrated experience leading and developing multidisciplinary teams in complex operating environments.
Solid understanding of program monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning (MEAL) systems.
Experience engaging with government counterparts, donors, and partner organizations at a senior level.
Familiarity with the local context and operating environment is an advantage.
Fluency in English required; knowledge of local languages beyond Amharic is an added advantage.
