Job Summary

ET Stream is a media and entertainment company focused on producing and delivering engaging entertainment content for Ethiopian audiences.

We are looking for a creative and talented Scriptwriter & Translator to join our production team. The ideal candidate must have excellent command of Amharic and English and be able to translate, adapt, and write scripts that sound natural, engaging, and culturally appropriate for Ethiopian audiences.

This position requires more than direct word-for-word translation. The candidate should be able to understand the original story, meaning, emotion, humor, and character personality and creatively adapt them into natural spoken Amharic suitable for dubbing, voice-over, series, movies, and other ET Stream productions. ET Stream welcomes both experienced professionals and talented emerging writers who have strong language, translation, and creative storytelling abilities.

Job Requirements

Education:

• Bachelor's Degree in Literature, Languages, Theatre Arts, Film, Journalism, Communication, Media, Creative Writing, Translation, or with related field of study

Experience:

• 1-2 years of experience

• Previous experience in translation, scriptwriting, film, television, theatre, dubbing, media, or content creation is an advantage.

• Experience in Literature, Languages, Theatre Arts, Film, Journalism, Communication, Media, Creative Writing, Translation, or related fields is an advantage.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Translate scripts, dialogue, and other content from English into Amharic.

• Write and develop scripts for ET Stream’s original and adapted productions.

• Adapt international movies, series, and entertainment content for Ethiopian audiences.

• Rewrite translated dialogue into natural and conversational Amharic suitable for voice actors.

• Preserve the original meaning, emotion, humor, personality, and intention of each character.

• Develop and improve dialogue, scenes, characters, and story flow when required.

• Review and edit scripts for grammar, clarity, consistency, and cultural relevance.

• Prepare scripts for dubbing and voice-over recording.

• Maintain consistency in character names, terminology, tone, and storyline throughout multiple episodes.

• Work closely with voice actors, directors, editors, translators, and the ET Stream production team.

• Revise scripts based on feedback and production requirements.

• Complete assigned scripts according to the production schedule and deadlines.

Skills & Competencies

• Fluency in English is mandatory.

• Excellent Amharic writing, reading, speaking, and grammar skills are mandatory.

• Strong ability to translate and adapt content from English to Amharic.

• Strong creative writing and storytelling skills.

• Good understanding of dialogue, character development, emotion, and storytelling.

• Ability to write natural Amharic dialogue rather than direct word-for-word translations.

• Good understanding of Ethiopian culture, expressions, humor, and audiences.

• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain consistency across episodes.

• Ability to work under deadlines and collaborate effectively with a production team.

• Knowledge of additional languages is a strong plus but is not mandatory.
