Job Purpose
The Senior Accountant – Payable & Treasury is responsible for managing the company’s payment, accounts payable, treasury, tax, and related financial activities. The position ensures that payments and financial transactions are processed accurately and on time, while maintaining proper reconciliations, tax compliance, confidentiality, and adherence to applicable accounting standards and company procedures.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Accounts Payable & Payment Management
Handle the complete payment cycle, from receiving and reviewing payment-demanding documents through processing and settlement by cash, cheque, or transfer orders.
Review payment documents for completeness, accuracy, authorization, and compliance with company policies and procedures.
Maintain accurate accounts payable records and ensure timely follow-up and reconciliation of outstanding balances.
Treasury & Bank Operations
Manage day-to-day treasury activities, including cash, bank transactions, transfers, and related financial records.
Prepare and maintain accurate bank and cash reconciliations and follow up on outstanding reconciling items.
Support effective cash management by monitoring payment requirements and ensuring timely processing of approved financial obligations.
Bonds, Guarantees & Letters of Credit
Manage and follow up on bid bonds, guarantees, Letters of Credit (LCs), and other related financial instruments.
Monitor the status, validity, expiry, renewal, release, and settlement of bonds and guarantees and maintain proper records.
Coordinate with relevant internal departments, banks, suppliers, and other stakeholders regarding bonds, guarantees, and LCs.
Tax Declaration & Compliance
Prepare and follow up on tax declarations in accordance with the Ethiopian Tax System and applicable requirements.
Ensure accurate recording, reconciliation, and timely settlement of tax-related transactions.
Maintain proper tax records and supporting documents and coordinate with relevant parties on tax-related matters.
Accounting & Reconciliation
Ensure accurate recording and reconciliation of payment, treasury, supplier, tax, and other relevant accounting transactions.
Apply sound accounting principles and applicable accounting standards, including IFRS, in the processing and reporting of financial transactions.
Maintain complete, accurate, and properly organized financial records and supporting documents.
Internal Control & Confidentiality
Ensure that payment and treasury activities are performed in accordance with company procedures and established internal controls.
Maintain confidentiality of financial and company information and comply with applicable confidentiality laws and requirements.
Work independently and effectively as part of a team while maintaining accuracy, accountability, and professional integrity.
Other Responsibilities
Maintain effective communication with relevant internal departments, banks, suppliers, and other stakeholders on payment and financial matters.
Provide necessary accounting and financial information and support to the Finance Department and management.
Perform other related duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Accuracy and timeliness of payment and accounts payable processing.
Timely completion of cash, bank, supplier, and tax reconciliations.
Timely and accurate tax declaration and follow-up.
Effective management and follow-up of bonds, guarantees, and Letters of Credit.
Accuracy and completeness of accounting records and supporting documents.
Compliance with accounting standards, company procedures, and applicable requirements.
Effective handling of confidential financial information.
Quality of communication and coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
Job Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from a recognized university.
Relevant Work Experience: Minimum of 6 years of relevant work experience, preferably with at least 2 years of experience as a Senior Accountant.
Required Competencies & Requirements
Ability to handle the complete payment cycle, from receiving payment-demanding documents through payment by cash, cheque, or transfer orders, including bid bonds, guarantees, LCs, tax declarations, and reconciliations.
Knowledge of computerized accounting systems and ERP applications; knowledge of Infor M3 is highly preferable.
Good knowledge of the Ethiopian Tax System, with practical experience in tax declaration and follow-up.
Sound understanding of accounting standards and principles, including IFRS.
Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team.
Strong computer literacy, particularly Advanced Excel, Outlook, Word, and other relevant Microsoft Office applications.
Understanding of confidentiality laws and the ability to handle confidential financial information appropriately.
Good communication skills in both Amharic and English.
