About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and highly knowledgeable Senior Customs Assessor to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for accurately assessing customs declarations, determining applicable duties and taxes, ensuring compliance with customs laws and regulations, and providing guidance on customs classification, valuation, and clearance procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Review and assess customs declarations and supporting commercial documents.
Determine the correct HS codes, customs values, duties, taxes, and applicable fees.
Verify the accuracy and completeness of import and export documentation.
Ensure compliance with applicable customs laws, regulations, procedures, and company policies.
Identify discrepancies, misdeclarations, undervaluation, incorrect classification, and other customs risks.
Review customs documentation including commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, certificates of origin, and permits.
Coordinate with customs authorities, freight forwarders, importers, exporters, and other relevant stakeholders.
Provide technical guidance to customs clearance staff on classification, valuation, and customs procedures.
Monitor changes in customs regulations and communicate relevant updates to management and operational teams.
Support customs audits, inspections, post-clearance reviews, and dispute-resolution processes.
Maintain accurate records of customs assessments and clearance transactions.
Identify opportunities to improve customs compliance and clearance efficiency.
Prepare regular reports on customs assessments, duties, taxes, and related activities.
Train and mentor junior customs assessors and clearance staff.
Perform other duties related to customs operations as assigned.
Job Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree or diploma in Customs Administration, Logistics, International Trade, Supply Chain Management, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
5+ years of relevant experience in customs assessment, customs clearance, import/export operations, or international trade.
Strong knowledge of HS classification, customs valuation, tariff schedules, and import/export procedures.
Good understanding of customs laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
Experience dealing with customs authorities and customs clearance systems.
Strong analytical and numerical skills with excellent attention to detail.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and relevant customs/ERP systems.
Strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work under pressure and meet clearance deadlines.
High level of integrity, accountability, and professionalism.
Professional certification or specialized training in customs and international trade is an advantage.
