Job Description

Job Summary

The Senior HR Officer will be responsible for supporting and coordinating the organization's human resources functions, including recruitment and selection, employee relations, performance management, training and development, employee records, attendance and leave administration, disciplinary procedures, HR reporting, and implementation of company policies and procedures.

The position requires a proactive and people-oriented professional who can work closely with management, supervisors, and employees to ensure that HR practices support the company's operational and strategic objectives.

Job Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resource Management, Management, Business Administration, or a related field.

Experience:

  • More than 3 years of relevant professional experience in Human Resources.

  • Previous experience in a manufacturing, steel, construction, industrial, or large-scale business environment is highly desirable.

  • Experience in maintaining personnel records and preparing HR reports.

  • Experience with HRIS or other HR management software is an advantage.

  • Preference will be give to candidates with experience working in the industrial sector

  • Candidates with experience in industrial or manufacturing companies, particularly organizations with a large workforce and shift-based operations, will be given strong consideration.

    Experience dealing with recruitment of technical and non-technical employees, employee discipline, attendance management, workforce planning, and industrial workplace HR administration will be an advantage.

Duties and Responsibilities

Recruitment and Staffing

  • Coordinate the recruitment and selection process for various positions.

  • Prepare job descriptions and vacancy announcements in coordination with department heads.

  • Screen applications and conduct initial candidate assessments.

  • Coordinate interviews, reference checks, and employment documentation.

  • Ensure new employees complete all required joining and onboarding procedures.

  • Maintain an updated recruitment and manpower status report.

  • Support management in workforce planning and manpower requirements.

Employee Relations

  • Maintain positive and professional relationships between management and employees.

  • Handle employee inquiries, concerns, complaints, and workplace issues professionally and confidentially.

  • Support management in resolving employee relations matters.

  • Assist in disciplinary processes in accordance with company policies and applicable labor requirements.

  • Promote a respectful, productive, and positive working environment.

  • Support communication between employees, supervisors, and management.

Performance Management

  • Coordinate employee performance appraisal processes.

  • Follow up on performance evaluation schedules and documentation.

  • Support supervisors and managers in setting performance objectives.

  • Identify performance-related issues and coordinate appropriate improvement actions.

  • Maintain accurate performance management records.

Attendance, Leave and Employee Records

  • Monitor employee attendance, absenteeism, lateness, and leave records.

  • Ensure employee files and HR records are complete, accurate, and properly maintained.

  • Maintain confidential personnel information.

  • Prepare regular HR reports related to attendance, turnover, leave, manpower, and employee movements.

  • Coordinate with relevant departments regarding payroll-related employee information.

Training and Development

  • Identify employee training and development needs in coordination with department heads.

  • Assist in preparing annual training plans.

  • Coordinate training programs, orientations, and employee development activities.

  • Maintain training records and evaluate training participation and documentation.

  • Support employee career development initiatives.

 HR Policies and Procedures

  • Implement and monitor company HR policies and procedures.

  • Review HR procedures and recommend improvements where necessary.

  • Ensure employees understand relevant company policies and workplace procedures.

  • Support management in developing and implementing HR initiatives.

  • Ensure proper HR documentation and administrative controls.

Labor and Regulatory Compliance

  • Maintain awareness of applicable Ethiopian labor laws and employment regulations.

  • Support the organization in implementing employment practices in accordance with applicable legal requirements.

  • Maintain proper employment contracts and personnel documentation.

  • Assist with labor-related inspections, reports, and documentation when required.

  • Ensure HR procedures are consistently and properly documented.

HR Reporting and Analysis

  • Prepare periodic HR reports for management.

  • Analyze employee turnover, absenteeism, recruitment status, manpower requirements, and other HR indicators.

  • Provide management with accurate HR information to support decision-making.

  • Maintain updated employee databases and HR information systems.

Employee Welfare and Engagement

  • Support employee welfare and engagement initiatives.

  • Help organize employee communication and workplace activities.

  • Identify workplace issues that may affect employee satisfaction and productivity.

  • Promote teamwork, professionalism, discipline, and a positive organizational culture

Skills & Competencies

  • Practical knowledge of recruitment, employee relations, performance management, training, attendance, and HR administration.

  • Good understanding of applicable Ethiopian labor and employment requirements.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
