Senior Surveyor

Job Description

The Surveyor carries out all land and construction surveying for road construction and asphalt maintenance projects. This includes setting out, levelling, and measuring completed works. The role makes sure works are built at the correct alignment, levels, and dimensions, and provides accurate measurements for progress and payment.

Job Requirement

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Survey Engineering with related field of study with relevant work experience.

Experience: 4-6 years in surveying (road or construction projects )

Location of work: Different project sites

Duties & Responsibilities:

Setting Out and Control

• Establish and maintain survey control points and benchmarks on each project

• Set out road centerline, edges, shoulders, drains, culverts, and structures from the drawings

• Provide levels and grades for subgrade, base, and asphalt layers

• Check layer thickness, cross-fall, and alignment during and after construction

Measurement and Quantities

• Take as-built measurements and cross-sections of completed works

• Calculate areas, volumes, and quantities (e.g., bush clearing, shoulder blading, asphalt overlay, earthworks)

• Prepare measurement sheets and support the preparation of Interim Payment Certificates (IPC)

• Verify quantities together with the consultant’s surveyor

Documentation and Reporting

• Keep survey field books, data, and drawings organized and up to date

• Prepare as-built drawings, plans, and longitudinal and cross-section profiles

• Support Requests for Inspection (RFI) with survey data and measurements

• Report survey progress and problems to the Project Manager

Equipment and Safety

• Operate and maintain survey equipment (total station, auto level, GPS, tapes)

• Check and calibrate instruments regularly

• Follow site safety rules, PPE use, and traffic control when working on or near the road

Skills & Competencies

• Total station, level, and GPS operation

• AutoCAD,(or similar), and MS Excel

• Ability to read drawings and compute quantities

• Accuracy, attention to detail, and good record keeping

• Willingness to work at different project sites
