Purpose of the Job
The Setup & Maintenance Mechanician II leads the installation, setup, calibration, and continuous maintenance of inspection machines used in the bottle production process. This role ensures optimal machine performance, minimizes unscheduled downtime, maintains strict product quality standards, and supports production efficiency while providing technical guidance to junior mechanicians.
Job Requirements
Education
Bachelor's Degree or TVET Level Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
Additional specialized training in: Inspection Machinery Setup & Calibration, Industrial Automation Systems (PLCs, SCADA, Sensors), Safety & Compliance for Glass Factory Operations
Experience:
Minimum 4 years of hands-on experience in the maintenance of automated inspection machines, troubleshooting, and machinery calibration on production lines.
Direct experience with glass production processes and quality control systems.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Install and configure inspection machines on the bottle production line, ensuring proper calibration and operational functionality.
Perform initial setup and fine-tuning of inspection equipment to align with strict production specifications.
Verify sensor alignment, camera accuracy, and rejection mechanisms for precise defect detection.
Execute routine preventive maintenance programs on inspection machinery to eliminate unscheduled operational downtime.
Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and software issues affecting inspection performance.
Repair or replace faulty machine components, including sensors, motors, conveyors, and control panels.
Monitor machine metrics during active production and adjust settings to resolve quality issues.
Maintain accurate records of machine setups, calibration logs, maintenance actions, and troubleshooting activities.
Collaborate with Production and Quality Control teams to systematically resolve recurring inspection defects.
Enforce factory maintenance protocols, occupational safety standards, and keep a clean, organized work area.
Support the technical growth of junior mechanicians through direct coaching, mentoring, and knowledge transfer.
Carry out other related duties as assigned by the Shift Supervisor.
Skills & Competencies
Technical Knowledge & Competencies:
Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting capabilities for automated inspection machinery.
Proficiency using precision calibration instruments (micrometers, dial gauges, alignment tools).
Sound understanding of industrial automation systems (PLCs, SCADA, optical sensors, control systems).
Solid grasp of industrial safety standards and factory compliance protocols.
Practical problem-solving capabilities focused on root-cause diagnosis of machine-driven defects.
Resilience and capacity to deliver quality work under pressure within a fast-paced production environment.
