GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE ROLE

Under the direct supervision of Woreda Project Manager, the senior Health & Nutrition Officer is responsible for the day-to-day implementation of the MAMI Care Pathway in Deder Woreda, ensuring high-quality service delivery, capacity building, monitoring, and supervision with stakeholders. This role requires technical expertise in Management of small & nutritionally at-risk infants aged under 6 months and their mothers, community engagement, with a strong focus on capacity building, system strengthening and sustainability.

Description of Functional Relation Ships of the role, if any 

The Senior Health and Nutrition Officer will work within a dynamic network of stakeholders to ensure effective implementation and coordination of the MAMI Care Pathway. The role requires strong collaboration across multiple levels of the health system and with community actors. He/she will work with the GOAL Nutrition team and other officers within the field office to enhance their participation and involvement in prevention, awareness creation and capacity building of woreda based government health staffs. 

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY/DUTIES (detailed list of tasks and outputs categorized by “daily” “weekly” “monthly” or any other category which fits the role)

 Project Implementation

  • Lead the enrollment and follow-up of infants-mothers’ pairs into MAMI Care Pathway in selected health facilities and communities.

  • Support integration of MAMI Care pathway into existing maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH) and nutrition services.

  • Conduct routine supportive supervision at selected health facilities, provide technical support and on- the job training for nurses and feedback as needed.

  • Support the project manager in preparing deep implementation plan, procurement plan and other tasks as required.

  • Ensure the implementation of Family MUAC approach at community level and health facilities for early identification, assessment and referral of infants aged under six months and their mothers. 

  • Facilitate the bi-annual partners joint review meeting and supervision at Woreda level.

  • Facilitate community mobilization and awareness campaigns on infants and maternal nutrition.

Capacity Building

  • Train and mentor health workers, HEWs, and community volunteers on MAMI Care pathway tools and protocols.

  • Organize refresher training and supportive supervision visits.

  • Develop and disseminate IEC materials tailored to local contexts.

Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning

  • Prepare and submit Weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual report on MAMI care pathway indicators.

  • Conduct regular field visits to monitor progress and quality of services.

  • Document lessons learned, success stories, and challenges for continuous improvement.

  • Support PM in Developing Tools or checklist for monitoring and evaluation of MAMI Care pathway activities. 

  • Contribute to operational research and knowledge sharing.

Coordination & Representation

  • Liaise with woreda health offices, local authorities, and implementing partners.

  • Represent the community level &woreda level in technical working groups and stakeholder meetings.

  • Foster collaboration with other health and nutrition programs team to ensure synergy.

  • Identify and address implementation bottlenecks through regular field visits and stakeholder consultations.

REQUIREMENTS 

Qualification (Education, Experience, key qualities, skill and competence)
  • BSc/HO in Public Health with a minimum of four years’ proven work experience preferably in NGO and experience in MAMI care pathway is preferred.

  • Demonstrable experience in working with communities, and knowledge of participatory approaches 

  • Extensive Knowledge and experience in MNCH and MAMI.

  • Strong knowledge on monitoring and evaluation and report writing,

  • Ability to plan and organize work to meet individual, team and programme objective, 

  • Training and facilitation skills,

  • Ability to effectively liaise with government, donors, NGOs, community leaders and other stakeholders, 

  • Fosters working in teams & teamwork spirit, 

  • Very good knowledge and practice of computer application,

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken. Knowledge of local language is a must.

  • Continually looks to improve personal skill, knowledge and work hence contribute to capacity building within the team and organization,

  • Flexible and creative approach; keen to take initiative where appropriate.

  • Accountability & responsiveness within areas of responsibilities, 

  • Have good understanding and hands on experience on Management of small and nutritionally at-risk infants under six months and their mothers.
