ABOUT KURMUK GOLD MINE PLC (KGM)
Kurmuk Gold Mine PLC (KGM) is a subsidiary of Allied Gold Corp, a company listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange, with mining operations in multiple countries including Ethiopia, Mali, and Côte d'Ivoire. KGM holds a Large-Scale Gold Mining License and three Exploration Licenses for its Ethiopian project. These licenses are located in western Ethiopia, approximately 750 km from Addis Ababa and about 90 km northwest of Assosa, in the Benishangul-Gumuz Regional State. KGM is currently engaged in both mine development and exploration activities at the site.
THE ROLE
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Environment Superintendent to join our team at Kurmuk Gold Mine. Reporting the Health, Safety & Environment Manager, this role is crucial in monitoring and improving all environmental systems (structure, processes & people) in a manner that will ensure sustainability and efficiency across the entire operation, while also ensuring compliance With all relevant Regulation and Industry Standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Without being exhaustive, the responsibilities include:
- Oversee and direct the environmental team, ensuring effective execution of work plans and projects
- Ensure adherence to all relevant in-country environmental regulations and standards, and alignment with Allied Gold Corp’s Transformation and Sustainability Model e.g. risk management and closure planning, which includes:
- The development of environmental standards, guidelines and procedures for KGM in line with legislation and as prescribed by Allied Gold Corp from time to time
- Identification of training/education programs for those employees whose work may have a significant impact on the environment
- Rehabilitation to ensure sufficient plants are available for rehabilitation purposes and the management of restoration
- Develop and implement environmental management systems (EMS), such as ISO 14001 in collaboration with HSE Manager, and monitor their effectiveness
- Foster an HSE duty of care attitude towards fellow personnel
- Promote sustainable development practices within KGM, considering environmental, social, and economic impacts
- Communicate with various stakeholders, including government agencies, communities, and other interested parties, to address environmental concerns
- Promote a strong environment awareness culture within the organization and in the community
- Supervise and mentor environment personnel
- Ensure the environmental management system is stream-lined across site and documentation is controlled, maintained and available to all personnel
- Stay informed about current best practices and emerging technologies in environment management
- Ensure that the direct report is made aware of any key issue, results and deficiencies that may affect compliance or mine performance
- Be familiar with the rest of the department’s legislation requirements, i.e. health and safety
- Feedback community concerns to social performance department and to mine management and assist with follow up actions
- Participate in professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Safeguarding Children and Young People (Safeguarding) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI): Understands and puts into practice the responsibilities under Safeguarding and GEI policies and Kurmuk Gold Mine PLC Code of Conduct (CoC), ensuring that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills:
- A BA degree in Environmental Management or Environmental Sciences or related field from a recognised institution, and
- Minimum of 5 – 8 years of experience in environmental management within the mining industry, with some experience at Superintendent level required
- Possess in-depth knowledge of environmental science, environmental management, and relevant mining regulations
- May be responsible for managing the environmental budget and ensuring cost-effective environment operations
- Working Knowledge of Risk assessment
- Proven track record of successfully developing and implementing effective environmental programs and initiatives.
