ABOUT KURMUK GOLD MINE PLC (KGM)

Kurmuk Gold Mine PLC (KGM) is a subsidiary of Allied Gold Corp, a company listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange, with mining operations in multiple countries including Ethiopia, Mali, and Côte d'Ivoire. KGM holds a Large-Scale Gold Mining License and three Exploration Licenses for its Ethiopian project. These licenses are located in western Ethiopia, approximately 750 km from Addis Ababa and about 90 km northwest of Assosa, in the Benishangul-Gumuz Regional State. KGM is currently engaged in both mine development and exploration activities at the site. 

THE ROLE

KGM is searching for a Geotechnical Superintendent with significant experience in geotechnical engineering evaluation, design and statutory operational management support and services as designated by the Technical Services Manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Safety & Compliance:

    Ensuring adherence to company geotechnical standards, statutory regulations, and safe work practices for ground control. 

  • Stability Analysis & Design:

    Conducting detailed slope stability analyses, design ground support systems (e.g., cable bolts), and perform analyses for various features like cutback designs and highwall slopes. 

  • Monitoring & Instrumentation:

    Designing, installing, and evaluating geotechnical monitoring systems, analyzing instrumentation data, and ensuring the proper maintenance of equipment. 

  • Data Management:

    Collecting, analyzing, and interpreting geotechnical and hydrogeological data, developing 3D geotechnical block models, and maintaining life-of-mine stress models. Collaboration with exploration team for collection of appropriate data to enhance data LOM slope design input parameters.

  • Risk Management:

    Proactively identifying and managing geotechnical risks, developing and implementing systems for risk mitigation. 

  • Team Leadership:

    Leading, mentoring, and training a team of geotechnical engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of safety and innovation. 

  • Collaboration:

    Working closely with mine operations, geology, planning engineering, and dewatering teams to integrate geotechnical input into mine planning and daily operations. 

  • Budgeting & Reporting:

    Managing budgets for ground support projects, overseeing external consultants, and ensuring compliance with reporting requirements. 

  • Safeguarding Children and Young People (Safeguarding) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI): Understands and puts into practice the responsibilities under Safeguarding and GEI policies and Kurmuk Gold Mine PLC Code of Conduct (CoC), ensuring that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Education:

  • A tertiary qualification/diploma in Geology or Mine Engineering from a recognized institution. Rock Mechanic Ticket or Rock Mechanical degree and association with internationally recognized society.

Experience 

  • Significant experience in open pit mining, with specific knowledge in rock mechanics and ground control. 
    • A good understanding of quality control and quality assurance protocols.
    • Expertise in geotechnical investigation, rock mass characterization, slope design, and the use of geotechnical software and modelling tools.
    • Establishing geotechnical monitoring systems with TARP procedure to manage and monitor pit highwall conditions as well as waste rock dumps with high tipping faces.
    • Demonstrated ability in the production of technical documentations and reports.
