F&S advises partners on how to create sustainable economic opportunities for people in developing countries and offer advice and support through a number of services, with core services including Gender and Nutrition integrations, Market Systems Development, youth employment and entrepreneurship, inclusive rural finance, gender in value chains, and external evaluation and Program Management. Particularly, F&S is well acquainted with ensuring all our work and project outputs are aligned with the local context. 

Position Summary  

The Gender and Livelihood officer will be a technical lead, coach and mentor, relationship manager, facilitator, technical writer, and a thought leader on nutrition integration in agriculture. You will support the design and delivery of technical services to Gender and Nutrition related engagements F&S executes at institutional and smallholder farmer levels. 

The Officer will work closely with F&S’s local and global teams and actively participate in project design, implementation, monitoring, coaching, and follow-up sessions. The Position holder will play key role in client partnership and project activities follow up and reporting. 

The Officer will report to the F&S General Manager and work closely with Project  leads

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Support in the implementation of gender integrations and Nutrition Sensitive agriculture  technical assistance.

  • Support and take lead in the design and delivery of participatory training, sensitization, workshops on gender integration and nutrition promotion activities. 

  • Support/lead the development and piloting of capacity building tools that integrate both gender and nutrition into the design and implementation of agriculture activities.

  • Respond to simple routine queries by clients and escalate where appropriate, in order to provide a timely and accurate response to enquiries. 

  • Lead in preparing reports while adhering to F&S and clients’ standards and quality controls.

  • Represent F&S in specific partners’ meetings, workshops and contribute to project learning. 

  • Lead in facilitations learning and networking events. 

  • Perform other related duties as required.

About You 

Required Education & Technical Skills 

  • Master's degree in Food security, Gender Studies, Rural development, Nutrition, Agricultural Extension, Agricultural Economics, or related field with relevant disciplines around the nexus of agriculture, gender and nutrition.

  • Experience in consultancy work with international organizations. This includes gender, project design, training manual development and training facilitations. 

  • Experience in development organizations including partner engagement, communication and reporting.  

Professional Experience

  • Master’s degree with a minimum of 5 years’ professional experience across disciplines such as agriculture, gender, nutrition, development studies, or other relevant fields at the intersection of agriculture, gender and nutrition.

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in consultancy, facilitating training on gender, nutrition-sensitive agricultural practices, designing and implementing tools and approaches to support institutions in integrating gender and nutrition in their agriculture work. 

  • Demonstrated experience in offering technical assistance or advisory services in the agriculture sector and with a focus on gender and nutrition promotion. 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and proven successful ability to lead interviews, focus groups, and other formative  research methodologies and report writing.  

  • Understanding of gender-integrated agriculture concepts in Ethiopia and ability to integrate a gender lens into agricultural promotion activities.

  • Strong analytical skills, including ability to gather and analyse a variety of information pertaining to issues and to develop appropriate recommendations for action. 

  • Strong written communication skills, including demonstrated ability to write required documents in a clear, concise, well-organized manner. 

  • Advanced computer skills in a Windows based environment including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel. 

  • Fluency in English, written and oral, is required. 

  • Speaking different local languages is appreciated. 

  • Travel both local and international is expected.
