The Quality Assurance Supervisor / Microbiologist is responsible for supervising quality systems and conducting microbiological testing to ensure beverage products meet safety, regulatory, and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
Safety, Health, and Environment
. Quality Assurance Supervision
- Supervise daily quality checks on raw materials, production process, and finished products.
- Ensure compliance with GMP, food safety regulations, and company standards.
- Monitor and verify adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Lead, train, and coach QA inspectors on daily tasks and quality monitoring.
- Document non-conformities and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Support internal and external audits, inspections, and certifications.
2. Microbiological Testing & Monitoring
- Conduct microbiological analysis on raw materials, in-process, finished products, and water (TPC, yeast & mold, coliforms, pathogens).
- Perform environmental monitoring (surface swabs, air sampling, and equipment hygiene checks).
- Monitor personnel hygiene through hand swab tests and compliance inspections.
- Verify the effectiveness of sanitation and cleaning programs.
- Conduct shelf-life studies and monitor microbial stability of products.
- Provide microbiological clearance for batch release.
3. Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare and maintain laboratory records, certificates of analysis (CoA), and QA reports.
- Record and trend microbiological results to identify risks and improvement areas.
- Report deviations and recommend preventive measures to the QA Manager.
4. Continuous Improvement & Training
- Train production and QA staff on microbiological sampling, GMP, hygiene, and food safety practices.
- Participate in root cause analysis for spoilage, contamination, or consumer complaints.
- Support validation of new microbiological methods and technologies.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives in product safety and quality.
- BSc Degree in Biology, Microbiology, Food Science & Technology, or Food Engineering, and other related fields.
The requirements specify a minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience across two distinct but related areas:
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Microbiologist in the food or beverage industries.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Quality Assurance (QA) supervision.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and reporting skills.
- Strong knowledge of microbiological testing techniques and quality management systems.
- Experience with quality management systems.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
