General Accountability

Reporting to the Mine Manager, the incumbent is responsible for prioritizing and implementing grade control, mine mapping and other related tasks within the company’s mining operation. This entails maintaining excellent lines of communications with all mining and geological staff and maintaining good relations with the ETNO Mining and Akobo Minerals management team. 

This position has technical responsibility for the mine geology function in the Segele gold mine. Reporting to this position are other permanent and temporary staff as may be required from time to time.  The role of the Mine geologist is to consistently carry out top-level professional geological work and grade control with the objective of maintaining a consistent quality of the mined ore from the Segele gold mine.

Specific Responsibilities 

• Assists in the development of effective grade control measures to ensure success of the company’s precious metals mining efforts in Ethiopia.
• Manages geological mapping and modelling of ore bodies within the Mining License.  Operates in close cooperation with staff and contractors participating in the mining operations. 
• Works together with the Mine Manager (MM) on annual mine budgets and manages approved expenditures while communicating progress to the MM and other Management as requested.
• Ensures the continuous support and development of staff to meet present and future challenges for the organization.  Ensures that the Mine geology group operates as a team to achieve the mining objectives.
• Ensures a high level of professional focus in mining staff.  Identifies all government and regulatory standards that must be followed and prepares and gains approval of internal Company Environmental and Safety standards as well as QA/QC standards to be followed in ETNO Mining’s Mining activities.  Ensures all staff is trained in meeting these standards.
• Ensures to submit formal reports on mine geology progress and requirements to the Mine manager.

QUALIFICATIONS

The position requires a University degree in Geology, preferably post graduate, and strong business and management skills and at least 6 years of experience in an exploration/mining environment.  The incumbent requires experience/expertise in precious and base metal deposits and their mining.
