Project  Overview

The Momentum Integrated Health Resilience project is implemented by a consortium led by IMA World Health, is a global initiative that partners with governments and local stakeholders in fragile states and regions. MIHR’s objective is to save lives through increased access to high-quality MNCH-Nutrition life-saving interventions, strengthening partnerships with local organizations, and improving adaptive management to prevent, detect, and respond to health emergencies. MIHR focuses on equipping health institutions and frontline workers with the skills, tools, and resources to sustainably address the leading causes of maternal and child deaths. In Ethiopia, the project has three main objectives: 1) Enhance health facilities' readiness to provide essential quality MCH and nutrition services; 2) Improve access to and utilization of quality MCH and nutrition services through contextualized service delivery models; and 3) Enhance health security by improving emergency preparedness, disease surveillance, and outbreak response.

Position summary

The Immunization Advisor is a key member of the technical team and responsible for the overall technical vision and successful performance of the project's immunization and related interventions. The Advisor provides direct technical assistance to the area implementation team (AIT) and partners, coordinates all immunization activities, and represents the project  on relevant national platforms.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Lead the design and technical execution of all immunization initiatives, ensuring alignment with key project milestones and deliverables.
  • Develop the project's annual work plans for immunization, collaborating closely with the service delivery team lead and cross-functional teams.
  • Provide expert technical assistance to project implementation teams, partners, and government entities on immunization strategy, policy, and implementation best practices.
  • Drive the implementation of specific high-priority immunization activities, including capacity enhancement, second year of life (2YL) service delivery, new vaccine introduction, surveillance of adverse events following immunization (AEFI), cold chain maintenance, supplementary immunization activities (SIAs), PIRI, and immunization as part of the Mobile Health and Nutrition team and epidemic response.
  • Represent the project in national and international immunization technical meetings, working groups, and conferences, serving as the project's primary technical liaison.
  • Collaborate with other State Department investments to capture best practices and identify successful immunization interventions for potential scale-up and continuity across different contexts.
  • Develop essential technical documentation, including manuals, guidelines, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and protocols related to immunization programming.
  • Publish and disseminate knowledge products—such as technical briefs, lessons learned, and best practices—in collaboration with the Knowledge Management team, sharing insights with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) and Communications teams to establish a robust monitoring system (including indicators and data collection methodologies) to track the quality and reach of immunization activities.
  • Ensure that lessons learned and evidence from project implementation consistently inform field discourse and programmatic decisions at all levels.
  • Identify opportunities for and lead the execution of operational research on immunization in collaboration with the MEL and Research teams.
  • Monitor, analyze, and troubleshoot any technical and operational challenges encountered during immunization program implementation.
  • Prepare and submit timely, high-quality quarterly and annual project reports focused on immunization performance and outcomes.
  • Participate in all required project meetings, providing strategic updates on innovative approaches and technical progress.
  • Advanced degree in health fields with specialized training and/or experience related to immunization.
  • At least 7 years of technical and programmatic experience on immunization. 
  • Experience on protocols, manuals and training materials development. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to promote team work and effort.
  • Effective verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Proven experience of working along the health system - community, primary health care units and referral hospitals 
  • Experience of interacting with local governments, international organizations, other bilateral donor and civil society representatives, and senior level government officials is desired. 
  • Computer skills in word, power point and Excel. 
  • Skills in data processing.
  • Able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Being able to communicate with more than one local language is a plus.
