JOB SUMMARY
The Nutrition Officer contributes to the calling of Medical Teams by ensuring quality nutrition services for vulnerable refugee and host populations in Medical Teams operations in Ethiopia. This position will be responsible for providing support to healthcare centres, health posts, and communities in the project areas, ensuring effective implementation and delivery of nutrition services
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in assessing, analyzing, documenting and reporting on the nutrition situation and prevailing trends within the community.
- Coordinate technical and logistical support to the woreda health sector for the effective implementation of nutrition interventions.
- Support the promotion of gender equity and equality at each level of nutrition activity implementation.
- Coordinate with Health Extension Workers (HEWs) and other health professionals for effective, sustainable, and efficient nutrition interventions.
- Provide Woreda-level basic CMAM (Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition) and IYCF (Infant and Young Child Feeding) training to HEWs and other health professionals.
- Offer technical support to Ministry of Health (MoH) staff on the management of Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) and IYCF.
- Provide treatment for OTP/SC/TSFP beneficiaries based on national/international protocols and standards.
- Provide technical support throughout the screening process, from admission to discharge, for malnourished children under five years old and uncomplicated SAM cases.
- Supervise the performance of CMAM and IYCF activities to ensure proper implementation.
- Supervise the admission of patients to TFP (Therapeutic Feeding Program) and SFP (Supplementary Feeding Program) as well as referral between programs.
- Support the treatment and progress of patients, ensuring adherence to current treatment protocols.
- Ensure that necessary documents, such as cards and registration books, are filled and maintained properly.
- Liaise with Ministry of Health institutions, DPPD, and other government organizations at Woreda and Kebele levels concerning CMAM activities.
- Supervise and support the implementation of CMAM and IYCF activities in all targeted facilities at the Woreda/camp level.
- Ensure that CMAM coverage reaches over 50% in rural, over 70% in urban areas, and over 90% in IDP/Refugee camps and all the performance indicators for Nutrition program are met Ensure the proper delivery of nutrition items to health facilities, reaching the intended beneficiaries.
- Support the integration of accountability practices into program activities by following established procedures during planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting. Help ensure that accountability is reflected in day-to-day tasks, team interactions, and when working with partners or communities.
- Support safeguarding of program participants and employees through promoting an environment of awareness and upholding the code of conduct provisions of Medical Teams Protection from Sexual Exploitation & Abuse, Child & Vulnerable Adult protection, and harassment-free workplace policies. Incumbents will remain alert and responsive to any child and adult safeguarding risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills which will enable you to promote strong safeguarding practices, understand the child and adult safeguarding policy and procedures, and conduct yourself in a manner consistent with the Safeguarding code of conduct and behavior expectations.

EDUCATION, LICENSES, & CERTIFICATIONS
Required: -
- BSC Degree in Nursing or Health Officer or Nutrition
- Valid professional licence
- TOT on 2019 National AM management protocol
EXPERIENCE
- At least 3 years’ experience working at a PHC. 1 years’ experience managing operation of Nutrition services within NGO.
- Experience working with INGOs is an added advantage
