Job Summary

Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Area Program Manager, the Technical Officer – MCAHN will be part of the program delivery team responsible for planning, implementing and monitoring and ensuring that all activities related to physical and mental wellbeing (Mental Child Adolescent Health and Nutrition) are implemented in a timely and efficient manner according to the agreed guidelines, standards and budget; co-facilitate community led system sensing (system’s mapping); and co-create and deliver solutions that build resilience. By strategically aligning physical and mental wellbeing efforts with FH’s mission, the mental child adolescent health and nutrition technical officer plays a crucial role in enhancing both the impact and sustainability of FH’s initiatives.

Principal Responsibilities 

Key Result #1 – Technical support and leadership 

  • Support capacity-building activities in MCAHN; identify capacity gaps, coordinate training, and provide post-training support/ mentorship to volunteers/facilitators and health extension workers.

  • Monitor and report progress of physical and mental wellbeing initiatives through field visits and feedback sessions from the health actors

  • Actively participate in the Area Program’s annual operational planning and system mapping processes, providing technical guidance and support as needed.

  • Ensure coordinated delivery of MCAHN approaches and initiatives across all communities within Area Program.

  • Incorporate an integrative approach linking other flourishing areas: behavior change, child development and youth friendly approaches into the PMWB flourishing area interventions. 

  • Foster effective collaboration with other flourishing area specialists to ensure an integrated approach to save lives, reduce illnesses and improve the mental health of the world’s most vulnerable women and their children so that they flourish and become resilient.

  • Facilitate a participatory, enabling, innovative, and transformative health system strengthening capacity to provide high quality services that save lives and prevent and treat illness, particularly focusing on community and primary health. 

  • Effectively coordinate the development of area program office PMWB work plans, budgets, and procurement plans in collaboration with other team members

  • Develop mentorship tools and co-design a robust mentorship plan for frontline workers to ensure the quality of implementation of PMWB initiatives.

  • Facilitate the creation of a participatory, enabling, innovative, and transformative MCAHN for the youth, children, and caregivers. 

  • Collaborate with diverse stakeholders to develop and implement integrated strategies that support community resilience through PMWB. 

  • Foster an environment that encourages individuals to realize and harness their unique abilities/UNLOCK their potential. 

  • Work closely with the MERL team to monitor and track the progress of Physical and Mental Wellbeing initiatives and documents and report lesson learned.

Key result #2 – Strategic partnerships development 

  • Map out and effectively engage with key institutional actors, and other implementing partners relevant to the Physical and Mental Wellbeing pathway. 

  • Ensuring that all shareholders are meaningfully involved in the plan, delivery, and evaluation of PMWB products and services.

  • Represent FH in AP/district level technical/health Working Groups and other stakeholder platforms to ensure the visibility of FH work and foster a coordinated stakeholder approach. 

  • Collaborate with partners to identify opportunities for joint initiatives, resource sharing, and capacity building.

  • Contribute field technical experiences during the development of concept notes and proposals for PMWB in coordination with relevant staff at CO levels. 

  • Participate in health cluster meetings, joint monitoring visits, and coordination forums.

  • Collaborate with the AP Manager, Program Coordinator, and community to identify and understand systemic challenges and opportunities for change.

Key Result #3 - Organizational Culture

  • Champion the promotion of FH culture, mindsets and behaviors in all interactions, serving as a role model. 

  • Lead the integration of faith-based principles into the role fostering a holistic approach to development. 

  • Any other duty may be assigned from time to time.

  •  Demonstrated experience in program design and capacity building within MCAHN, along with knowledge of mental health and psychosocial support.

  • Must demonstrate experience in data gathering, data demand and usage especially for MCAHN. 

  • Demonstrable experience in social behavior change and communication skills especially strategy development, implementation or integration. 

  • Experience in networking partnership building, preferably working within government structures and systems. 

  • Demonstrable capacity to prioritize tasks and work under pressure 

  • Demonstrable skills in technical writing including project reports and other technical documents

Safety & Security Responsibility

  • Encourages compliance of Safety and Security principles and policies of the organization by all staffs.  
  • Visiting project Offices and operational areas periodically to meet staff and making sure that all staff members are aware of the safety and security procedures.  

  • Explains to staffs the reasoning behind the organization’s safety and security policies and procedures  

  • Organizing local training sessions, such as First Aid, Fire Safety, and Defensive Driving for staff members. If possible, he/she should conduct briefing and training sessions himself/herself;  

  • Ensures that safety and security objectives are added to performance reviews and evaluations of all staff members;  

  • Encourages staffs to adopt safe and secure practices. Ensuring that updated personnel information related to safety (Record of Emergency Data) and security management are kept in Human resources

Education and Experience

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience working on programs/projects that support maternal child adolescent health and nutrition programs, mental health programs and digital health innovations. 

  •  Demonstrable experience in coordinating capacity building and provision of technical support for initiatives that improve children’s development, learning outcomes, and youth development.

  •  Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination in Public Health, Food science and Technology, Nutrition and dietetics or related sciences from accredited university.
