Job Summary

Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Area Program Manager, the Productive-Learning Technical Officer is responsible for planning, implementing and monitoring and ensuring that all activities related to productive learning (Early Childhood Development and Formal and Non-Formal education) are implemented in a timely and efficient manner according to the agreed guidelines, standards and budget; co-facilitate community led system sensing (system’s mapping); and co-create and deliver solutions that build resilience. By strategically aligning productive learning efforts with FH’s mission, the productive learning technical officer plays a crucial role in enhancing both the impact and sustainability of FH’s initiatives.

Principal Responsibilities

 Key Result #1 – Technical support and leadership 

  • Organize and Support capacity-building activities in Productive Learning; identify capacity gaps, coordinate training, and provide post training support/mentorship to volunteers/facilitators. 

  • Monitor and report progress of productive learning initiatives through field visits and feedback sessions from the education actors.

  • Actively participate in the Area Program’s annual operational planning and system mapping processes, providing technical guidance and support as needed.

  • Ensure coordinated delivery of Productive Learning approaches and initiatives across all the community within Area Program office. 

  • Create productive learning/education coordination platform in collaboration with the woreda/district education office and schools leverage the existing system to develop buy in. 

  • Incorporate an integrative approach linking other flourishing areas: behavior change, adult learning, and youth-friendly approaches into the productive learning pathway during implementation. 

  • Foster effective collaboration with other thematic leads/specialists to ensure an integrated approach to improving child development and learning outcomes, and support youth to be productive and resilient. 

  • Facilitate the creation of a participatory, enabling, innovative, and transformative learning environment for the youth, children, and their caregivers. 

  • Work closely with the MERL team to monitor and track the progress of Productive Learning initiatives and documents and report lesson learned.

  • Utilize the monitoring tools in collaboration with MERL to ensure the quality of implementation of Productive Learning initiatives at AP level. 

  • Organize and deliver training for teachers, school leaders, and facilitators on productive learning approaches and inclusiveness.

  • Implement innovative approach and comprehensive training programs for education actors, focusing on literacy and mathematics instruction for early childhood education, ensuring alignment with best practices and organizational strategic objectives.

  • Ensure productive learning activities are inclusive, gender-sensitive, and accessible to vulnerable children.

  • Monitor and assess teacher performance and student outcomes through regular follow up, providing actionable feedback and recommendations to strengthen instructional practices and learning outcomes in literacy and numeracy.

  • Collaborate with diverse stakeholders to develop and implement integrated strategies that support community resilience through PL. 

  • Foster an environment that encourages individuals to realize and harness their unique abilities/UNLOCK their potential. 

  • Design and facilitate innovative implementation approach that promote holistic development, focusing on physical, emotional, and social well-being. Work towards creating sustainable solutions that enhance community flourishing.

  • Engage in continuous learning and adaptation to meet the evolving needs of the communities we serve. 

Key result #2 – Strategic partnerships development 

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local education actors, including schools, NGOs, and government agencies. 

  • Map out and effectively engage with key institutional actors, and other implementing partners relevant to the Productive Learning pathway. 

  • Collaborate with partners to identify opportunities for joint initiatives, resource sharing, and capacity building.

  • Contribute field technical experiences during the development of concept notes and proposals for Productive Learning in coordination with relevant staff at CO levels. 

  • Ensure regular communication with the line manager and CO Technical Advisor for Productive Learning to align technical unit priorities and standards into program implementation.   

  • Represent FH in AP/district level technical/education Working Groups and other stakeholder platforms to ensure the visibility of FH work and foster a coordinated stakeholder approach. 

  • Participate in education cluster meetings, joint monitoring visits, and coordination forums.

  • Collaborate with the AP Manager, Program Coordinator, and community to identify and understand systemic challenges and opportunities for change.

  •   Facilitate the engagement of children and caregivers in the solution designing process to ensure their needs are addressed to improve children's development and learning outcomes.

  • Mobilize shareholders, encouraging active participation and ownership of initiatives that enhance their well-being, development, and education system transformation. 

Key Result #3 - Organizational Culture 

  • Champion the promotion of FH culture, mindsets and behaviors in all interactions, serving as a role model.
  • Lead the integration of faith-based principles into the role fostering a holistic approach to development.
  • Any other duty may be assigned from time to time.

  • Demonstrable experience in social behavior change and communication skills especially strategy development, implementation or integration. 

  • Experience in networking partnership building, preferably working within government structures and systems. 

  • Demonstrable capacity to prioritize tasks and work under pressure 

  • Demonstrable skills in technical writing including project reports and other technical documents

  • Encourages compliance of Safety and Security principles and policies of the organization by all staffs.  
  • Visiting project Offices and operational areas periodically to meet staff and making sure that all staff members are aware of the safety and security procedures.  

  • Explains to staffs the reasoning behind the organization’s safety and security policies and procedures  

  • Organizing local training sessions, such as First Aid, Fire Safety, and Defensive Driving for staff members. If possible, he/she should conduct briefing and training sessions himself/herself;  

  • Ensures that safety and security objectives are added to performance reviews and evaluations of all staff members;  

  • Encourages staffs to adopt safe and secure practices. Ensuring that updated personnel information related to safety (Record of Emergency Data) and security management are kept in Human resources

Education and Experience

  • At least 3 years of experience working on projects/programs that support basic education, ECD, non-formal education, and Youth Development.
  • Demonstrable experience in coordinating capacity building and provision of technical support for initiatives that improve children’s development, learning outcomes, and youth development.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in Basic Education, Early Childhood Development (ECD), education, social work, psychology, or other relevant fields.
