Background
The Network of Ethiopian Women’s Associations (NEWA) is a non-profit, non-partisan, and non-governmental umbrella network established in 2003. It brings together 50 member organizations committed to advancing women's and girls’ rights across Ethiopia. One of NEWA’s core strategic objectives is to strengthen evidence-based advocacy to influence the development, revision, and implementation of gender-responsive policies and plans.
In partnership with the Education Champion Network (ECN)- Cohort 8, NEWA has been implementing a three-year initiative supported by the Malala Fund since November 2025. This project envisions a world where all girls can learn and lead. It aims on the national and regional governments endorse and implement provisions of the Safe Schools Declaration to protect girls’ education in regions affected by conflict.
The Network of Ethiopian Women’s Associations (NEWA) is a non-partisan, non-governmental network organization established in 2003, and currently NEWA has 50 member local organizations and associations seeking to create a stronger advocacy voice for girls and women’s advancement. NEWA has a twofold goal: synchronizing the individual activities of women’s associations into an integrated collective effort and synergy to realize their common aspirations for gender equality; and launching a vigorous public campaign of promotion, advocacy, and lobbying for empowering and redressing the needs, asks of the girls and young women (GYW), and the creation of space for this underprivileged section of society, and women’s rights, NEWA wants to achieve among others.
NEWA With the support from the Malala Fund, NEWA is implementing a project entitled Project title: “Enhance Girls’ Education through promoting Safe school Declaration in conflict affected regions of Ethiopia (Amhara and Tigray)”.The primary objective of this initiative is to endorse and implement the national and regional governments of the provisions of Safe Schools Declaration to protect girls’ education in regions affected by conflict. Through this project, NEWA seeks to ensure that schools remain safe learning environments, free from violence and disruption, and that government bodies uphold their commitments to safeguard students particularly girls whose education is most vulnerable during periods of instability. As part of this commitment, to enhance the advocacy efforts of the project in conflict affected areas, NEWA plans to hire two Facilitators; one based in Bahir Dar (Amhara region) and one in Mekelle and Adigrat (Tigray region). Position Summary
The Facilitator is responsible for engaging and organizing community members and stakeholders, to participate in various initiatives. This role focuses on building relationships, coordinating and facilitating events, and promoting active community involvement. The candidate will be passionate about community service and possess excellent communication and organizational skills.
