We are looking for:  a Gender, Youth, and Social Inclusion (GYESI) Data Collector who will conduct qualitative data collection, including interviews and focus group discussions, to explore gender, youth, and social inclusion dynamics at the community level. This role ensures adherence to research protocols, ethical standards, and organizational Safeguarding and PSEA policies, maintaining confidentiality and a safe environment for all participants. This temporary position provides timely, high-quality insights to inform project strategy, decision-making, and future program planning.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Conduct qualitative data collection activities in assigned regions, including:
    • Individual In-Depth Interviews (IDIs)
    • Key Informant Interviews (KIIs)
    • Focus Group Discussions (FGDs)
  • Engage study participants in accordance with approved research protocols, ethical standards, and safeguarding requirements.
  • Ensure accurate, complete, and high-quality data collection that reflects local gender, youth, and social inclusion dynamics.
  • Support transcription, translation, and preliminary coding of qualitative data.
  • Maintain confidentiality, data protection, and data integrity throughout the assignment.
  • Coordinate with the research and project teams to meet agreed timelines and fieldwork plans.
  • Participate in briefings, debriefings, and validation sessions as required.
  • Report field observations, challenges, and emerging themes in a timely and structured manner.

Qualification and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, Gender Studies, Development Studies, Public Health, Sociology, Anthropology, or a related field.
  • Prior experience in qualitative data collection, including conducting IDIs, KIIs, and FGDs.
  • Demonstrated experience working on gender, youth, and social inclusion–related research or community-based studies.
  • Familiarity with ethical research practices, including informed consent and confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in relevant local languages spoken in the Somali and/or Oromia regions; working knowledge of English is required.
  • Previous experience working with NGOs, research institutions, or donor-funded projects is an asset.
  • Awareness and understanding of Safeguarding and PSEA principles is strongly preferred.
