ROMEL General Trading PLC is establishing a new copper wire and cable manufacturing plant covering rod breakdown, wire drawing, bunching and stranding, PVC and PE insulation and sheathing, and a routine-test laboratory in accordance with IEC standards.
We are looking for an experienced Cable and Wire Production Department Manager who will join the company during the plant procurement and establishment phase and take responsibility for the technical verification, installation, commissioning, and subsequent operation of the production department.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Managing Director and Factory Director to evaluate production equipment, participate in supplier selection and factory acceptance testing, supervise installation and commissioning, and ultimately manage the full production operation.
Key Responsibilities
Plant Selection, Verification and Commissioning
Review supplier quotations, machine specifications, production capacities, and process flows against the company's intended product range.
Verify equipment lists, ancillary requirements, spare parts, and consumables.
Identify equipment scope gaps, omissions, downgrades, and technical risks.
Participate in supplier negotiations, factory acceptance testing, and pre-shipment inspections, including international travel when required.
Assess plant layout, utilities, water-cooling systems, compressed air, and electrical distribution requirements.
Supervise equipment installation, commissioning, trial production, and operator training.
Work with supplier engineers to ensure production lines meet the required technical and operational specifications.
Production and Department Management
Take full responsibility for the operation and performance of the wire and cable production department.
Develop production plans and monitor output, yield, copper loss, scrap, and cost per kilometre.
Establish and maintain efficient production processes and operational procedures.
Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate production, maintenance, and quality-control personnel.
Develop preventive maintenance programs and spare-parts planning.
Establish raw-material specifications for copper rod, PVC, PE compounds, and other production materials.
Identify opportunities to improve production efficiency, reduce waste, and control manufacturing costs.
Quality and Standards
Work with the Factory Director to establish the department's quality-management system.
Ensure production processes comply with applicable IEC cable standards, including IEC 60227 and IEC 60502.
Establish routine and type-testing procedures in coordination with the quality and laboratory teams.
Ensure appropriate testing procedures are implemented, including:
Conductor resistance
High-voltage testing
Spark testing
Insulation resistance
Tensile strength
Elongation
Job Requirements
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education: BSc or MSc in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, or Materials Engineering.
Experience: Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in wire and cable manufacturing, including at least 3 years in a production management or plant leadership position.
Strong hands-on knowledge of:
Direct experience in the installation and commissioning of a new wire or cable production line is highly advantageous.
Working knowledge of IEC cable standards and electrical/mechanical testing requirements.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and equipment specifications.
Strong supplier negotiation and technical evaluation skills.
Fluent English in both written and spoken communication.
Amharic required for effective plant operations.
Valid passport and willingness to travel internationally on short notice.
