Job Description

A. Strategic Financial Leadership

• Develop and implement the company's financial strategy in alignment with its business objectives.

• Advise the CEO and executive leadership team on financial performance, business risks, investment decisions, and growth opportunities.

• Provide financial analysis to support strategic planning, operational decisions, and resource allocation.

• Evaluate business opportunities, financial feasibility, and the financial implications of new products and services.

• Establish financial policies, procedures, and governance frameworks that support sustainable growth.

B. Financial Planning and Budgeting

• Lead the preparation, implementation, and monitoring of annual budgets and periodic financial forecasts.

• Develop financial models, projections, and scenario analyses to support business planning.

• Monitor budget utilization and investigate significant variances.

• Establish financial performance indicators and reporting mechanisms to measure business performance.

• Recommend corrective actions to improve cost efficiency, profitability, and resource utilization.

C. Accounting and Financial Reporting

• Oversee accounting operations, general ledger management, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.

• Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial records and reports.

• Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards.

• Maintain appropriate accounting policies, documentation, and financial reporting procedures.

• Coordinate internal and external audits and ensure timely resolution of audit findings.

D. Treasury and Cash Flow Management

• Oversee cash flow forecasting, liquidity planning, and working capital management.

• Ensure effective management of company funds, banking relationships, and payment processes.

• Monitor liquidity requirements and recommend measures to maintain adequate financial resources.

• Establish appropriate controls over cash management, disbursements, and financial transactions.

• Support financial planning for technology investments, operational expansion, and new business initiatives.

E. Financial Governance, Risk, and Compliance

• Ensure financial activities comply with applicable Ethiopian laws, tax requirements, accounting standards, and relevant financial sector regulations.

• Establish and maintain effective internal financial controls, approval procedures, and segregation of duties.

• Identify and manage financial risks, including liquidity, operational, fraud, and financial reporting risks.

• Coordinate with relevant regulatory authorities, external auditors, tax authorities, banks, and other financial stakeholders as required.

• Support compliance with applicable National Bank of Ethiopia requirements and other regulatory obligations relevant to the company's licensed activities.

• Ensure financial documentation, records, and reports are maintained in accordance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

F. Tax Management and Statutory Reporting

• Oversee tax planning, tax compliance, and the timely submission of applicable tax declarations and payments.

• Ensure accurate calculation and reporting of applicable taxes and statutory obligations.

• Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess their implications for the company.

• Coordinate with tax authorities and external tax advisers when necessary.

G. Business Performance and Cost Management

• Analyze financial results and provide management with actionable insights into revenue, expenditure, profitability, and financial sustainability.

• Monitor operating costs and identify opportunities for cost optimization.

• Develop financial performance reports and dashboards for executive management.

• Collaborate with other departments to improve budget discipline and financial accountability.

• Evaluate the financial implications of business initiatives, technology expenditures, and operational improvements.

H. Financial Systems and Process Improvement

• Oversee the implementation and improvement of financial management systems, accounting processes, and reporting tools.

• Promote automation, accuracy, efficiency, and transparency in financial operations.

• Establish appropriate financial controls over digital transactions and technology-related expenditures.

• Work collaboratively with technology, operations, compliance, and other departments to strengthen financial processes.

• Support the development of scalable financial systems as the company expands.

Job Requirements

Educational Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Accounting and Finance, or a closely related field.

• A master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related discipline is an advantage.

• Professional qualifications such as ACCA, CPA, or equivalent are highly desirable.

Professional Experience

• Minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience in finance, accounting, financial management, or a related field.

• At least 3 years of experience in a leadership or senior financial management role.

• Demonstrated experience in financial planning, budgeting, financial reporting, cash flow management, and internal controls.

• Experience managing financial operations, preparing management reports, and supporting executive-level decision-making.

• Experience in fintech, banking, digital financial services, telecommunications, or another regulated industry is a strong advantage.

• Experience with financial audits, tax compliance, regulatory reporting, and financial risk management.
