Head of Tax

Job Description

The Head of Tax is responsible for managing the company’s overall tax strategy, ensuring compliance with local and international tax laws, and optimizing the company’s tax position across jurisdictions. This leadership role involves close collaboration with finance, legal, and business teams, as well as managing relationships with tax authorities and external advisors.

• Oversee all direct and indirect tax matters (corporate income tax, VAT, transfer pricing, withholding taxes, etc.)

• Ensure timely and accurate filing of all tax returns and compliance with local and international tax laws.

• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and assess their impact on the business.

• Manage tax audits and disputes, working with external tax advisors and legal counsel as needed.

• Optimize the group’s effective tax rate while managing tax risks and ensuring compliance.

• Develop and maintain transfer pricing documentation and ensure consistency with the local rules

• Lead, develop, and support the tax team; establish internal training and knowledge-sharing practices.

• Collaborate with internal stakeholders (finance, treasury, legal, business units) and external consultants.

Job Requirements

• Education: Master's degree in Taxation, Law, Accounting, or Finance

• Experience: 10+ years of experience in corporate tax, preferably in a multinational corporation or audit firm

Skills & Competencies

• Solid background in both direct and indirect taxation.

• Proven experience in international tax planning, transfer pricing, and tax structuring.

• Deep understanding of local and international tax regulations.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.

• Strategic thinker with a hands-on approach.

• Proven leadership and team management capabilities.

• Fluent in Amharic and English
