Job Description

SkyGate Duty Free is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Accountant to join our Finance team.

Job Summary

The Junior Accountant will support the Finance Manager in maintaining accurate financial records and carrying out day-to-day accounting activities. The role involves handling high-volume retail transactions, assisting with sales and cash reconciliations, and supporting accounting operations involving multiple currencies.

The successful candidate should be highly organized, detail-oriented, trustworthy, and comfortable working in a fast-paced duty-free retail environment.
Key Responsibilities

• Record daily sales and financial transactions accurately in the accounting system.

• Collect and organize daily POS sales reports from duty-free outlets.

• Assist with daily sales reconciliation by comparing POS reports with cash, card, and other payment records.

• Assist with the reconciliation of cash and foreign-currency sales.

• Record transactions involving ETB, USD, EUR, GBP, and other currencies in accordance with approved procedures.

• Assist with card payment reconciliation by matching POS transactions with settlement reports.

• Identify discrepancies in sales, cash, card, or foreign-currency transactions and report them to the Finance Manager.

• Prepare daily and weekly reconciliation schedules for review.

• Assist with recording refunds, voids, discounts, and cancelled transactions following proper authorization.

• Assist with bank and cash reconciliations.

• Process and maintain records of supplier invoices, expenses, and other financial documents.

• Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable activities.

• Maintain proper filing and documentation of accounting records and supporting documents.

• Assist with month-end accounting activities and preparation of supporting schedules.

• Support inventory-related accounting activities, including recording stock movements and assisting with stock reconciliation.

• Provide supporting documents and information for internal and external audits when required.

• Ensure accounting records and supporting documents are complete, accurate, and properly maintained.

• Perform other accounting and finance-related duties assigned by the Finance Manager.

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Requirements

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

• 1–2 years of relevant accounting experience is preferred.

• Experience in retail, duty-free, hospitality, or another high-volume transaction environment is an advantage.

• Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial procedures.

• Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and accounting software.

• Ability to work with POS reports and perform basic reconciliations.

• Good numerical and analytical skills.

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

• Good organizational and time-management skills.

• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

• High level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability.

• Good communication and teamwork skills.

• Ability to work effectively with cashiers, sales teams, and the Finance department.

• Experience handling multiple currencies is an added advantage.
