About the Job
Position Background and Objective
Under the EU-funded INTEPA project, Medical Teams International (MTI) provides financial support to strengthen the capacity of Metema General Hospital to deliver quality specialized healthcare services to refugees, internally displaced populations, and vulnerable host communities. Through this initiative, Metema General Hospital will employ and deploy a qualified Internal Medicine Specialist to expand access to specialized diagnosis and treatment, improve the quality of patient care, and reduce avoidable referrals to tertiary hospitals.

The General Practitioner (GP) will to deliver high-quality, comprehensive primary and secondary healthcare services. The successful candidate will act as the first line of medical response, diagnosing, treating, and managing a wide range of acute and chronic medical, surgical, pediatric, and obstetric conditions in Metema General Hospital.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct daily consultations in the General Outpatient Department (OPD) and manage routine patient care during ward rounds in medical, surgical, pediatric, and maternity wards.
Participate actively in the Emergency Department (ED) rotation, providing initial stabilization, resuscitation, and primary care for trauma victims and acute medical emergencies.
Perform minor surgical and clinical procedures such as wound debridement, suturing, abscess drainage, lumbar punctures, and assisting specialists in major operations (e.g., Cesarean sections or laparotomies) when required.
Diagnose and follow up on patients with non-communicable diseases (diabetes, hypertension) as well as prevalent infectious diseases (Malaria, Malnutrition, TB, HIV, and acute watery diarrhea).
Identify patients requiring specialized medical or surgical intervention, initiate primary stabilization, and coordinate timely referrals to the hospital’s resident specialists or external tertiary facilities
About You
Qualifications and Experience
Doctor of Medicine/ Medica Doctor from a recognized university.
Valid and active dental license from the Ministry of Health (MoH) Ethiopia or relevant regulatory body.
At least 2 years of relevant post-specialization clinical experience

Willingness and flexibility to work at Metema General Hospital.
Strong clinical judgment, communication, and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
Commitment to newborn survival, patient safety, professional ethics, and equitable access to specialized care.
Employment and Supervision
The successful candidate will be formally employed and deployed by Metema General Hospital, with financial support provided by MTI through the EU-funded INTEPA project. The specialist will work under the hospital’s established administrative and clinical supervision arrangements.
