Position Overview / Scope of Role:
The Sales Representative – Van-Based Sales is responsible for directly selling and distributing Great Abyssinia PLC products using a company sales vehicle within an assigned territory. The position will travel through designated sales routes, visit customers and retail outlets, promote and sell company products, receive customer payments, issue receipts, and ensure proper accountability for products, sales, and cash collections.
The role requires a highly energetic, customer-focused, and results-oriented professional with excellent communication skills and the ability to independently manage daily van-based sales activities. Practical experience using a cash register/POS machine and handling sales receipts is mandatory.
Top Roles and Responsibilities:
Van-Based Direct Sales
Conduct daily direct sales activities using the assigned company van within the designated territory.
Sell and distribute company products directly to customers and retail outlets along assigned sales routes.
Plan and effectively manage daily sales routes and customer visits.
Identify new customers and expand product coverage within the assigned territory.
Achieve assigned daily, weekly, and monthly sales targets.
Ensure proper handling, storage, and accountability of products carried in the sales vehicle.
Customer Handling and Product Sales
Approach customers professionally and actively promote company products.
Explain product information, prices, and available offers clearly to customers.
Build and maintain strong relationships with retailers and other customers.
Respond professionally to customer inquiries and complaints.
Collect customer feedback and communicate market information to the supervisor.
Cash Collection, Receipt & POS Handling
Independently handle customer payments resulting from van-based sales.
Operate the Company's cash register/POS machine accurately.
Issue proper sales receipts for every applicable transaction.
Maintain accurate records of cash, electronic payments, receipts, and sales transactions.
Reconcile daily sales, receipts, cash collections, and remaining stock.
Submit daily sales and cash collections according to Company procedures.
Immediately report any cash, receipt, stock, or transaction discrepancy to the responsible supervisor.
Product & Stock Accountability
Maintain accurate accountability for all products loaded onto and sold from the company van.
Verify products received against dispatch or loading documents.
Monitor remaining stock and request replenishment when required.
Properly record damaged, returned, expired, or unsold products.
Ensure no product or sales transaction remains unaccounted for.
Territory Development
Identify new sales opportunities within the assigned territory.
Expand customer coverage and improve product availability.
Monitor competitor activities, market prices, customer preferences, and product demand.
Provide regular market feedback to support sales and marketing decisions.
Sales Reporting
Prepare and submit daily sales, collection, receipt, and stock reports.
Maintain accurate records of customers visited, products sold, collections, and outstanding issues.
Report route performance, customer challenges, competitor activities, and sales opportunities.
Ensure timely and accurate reconciliation of sales, cash, receipts, and stock.
Vehicle and Route Responsibility
Use the company vehicle responsibly and strictly for authorized business activities.
Maintain proper care and cleanliness of the sales vehicle.
Follow assigned sales routes, schedules, and transportation procedures.
Immediately report vehicle-related issues, accidents, or operational problems.
Performs other related duties as directed.
Job Requirements
Educational Qualification:
Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Sales, Business Administration, Management, Economics, or related fields.
Experience:
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in sales, preferably in FMCG, beverage, food, retail, or distribution businesses.
Experience in van-based sales, route sales, direct sales, or field sales is highly preferred.
Practical experience operating cash register/POS machines is mandatory.
Experience in cash collection, receipt handling, and daily sales reconciliation is highly preferred.
