Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Senior Import Officer to manage the company’s import operations from supplier coordination through banking, shipping, Customs clearance, regulatory compliance, dry-port operations, and final warehouse delivery.
Main Responsibilities
The successful candidate will oversee import planning and supplier coordination; manage import payments, L/C, CAD, advance payments and foreign-exchange processes with commercial banks; and ensure accurate import documentation and timely payment processing.
The role will also manage Customs clearance, HS classification, valuation, duties and taxes, EFDA requirements where applicable, and other government approvals. It will coordinate shipping lines, freight forwarders and clearing agents, monitor shipments and container movements, and control demurrage, detention and logistics costs.
The Manager will monitor landed costs, import lead times and supplier performance, prepare regular reports, maintain complete import files, establish SOPs, and supervise import staff.
Key Performance Areas
On-time delivery, efficient bank and Customs processing, documentation accuracy, regulatory compliance, cost control, supplier performance, and timely import-file closure.
Job Requirements
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, International Business, Business Administration, or related field.
Minimum 3 or more relevant import/logistics experience, preferably in Ethiopia.
Strong knowledge of Ethiopian import, Customs and banking procedures.
Experience with shipping lines, freight forwarders and clearing agents.
EFDA experience is an advantage.
Knowledge of L/C, CAD, advance payment, Incoterms and import documentation.
Strong Excel, negotiation, communication, reporting and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage multiple shipments and work under pressure
