Job Summary
The Senior Mechanic will be responsible for diagnosing mechanical problems, carrying out preventive and corrective maintenance, repairing industrial machinery and equipment, and ensuring that mechanical systems operate safely and efficiently.
The successful candidates should have strong practical mechanical skills, experience with industrial equipment, good troubleshooting ability, and the capacity to work effectively in a steel/manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Maintenance
Perform preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance of industrial machinery and equipment.
Inspect machines regularly to identify mechanical problems before equipment failure occurs.
Diagnose mechanical faults and determine appropriate repair solutions.
Repair, replace, and adjust defective mechanical components.
Carry out equipment installation, assembly, dismantling, and alignment as required.
Ensure machinery is maintained according to maintenance schedules and manufacturer recommendations.
Reduce equipment downtime through timely and effective maintenance.
Troubleshooting and Repair
Diagnose mechanical failures using appropriate tools and technical methods.
Troubleshoot problems involving bearings, shafts, gears, belts, chains, pumps, valves, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, and other mechanical components.
Perform mechanical adjustments, replacements, lubrication, and alignment.
Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns and emergency maintenance requirements.
Identify the root causes of repeated mechanical failures and recommend corrective actions.
Preventive Maintenance
Follow established preventive maintenance schedules.
Inspect equipment and machinery on a regular basis.
Maintain proper lubrication and servicing of mechanical equipment.
Record maintenance activities, equipment conditions, spare parts used, and repairs completed.
Recommend replacement of worn or damaged components before major failures occur.
Team Support and Supervision
Guide and support junior mechanics and maintenance technicians.
Provide technical assistance and practical guidance to maintenance team members.
Coordinate maintenance activities with production and other departments.
Communicate equipment problems and maintenance requirements to the Maintenance Supervisor/Manager.
Participate in maintenance planning and shutdown activities.
Safety and Compliance
Follow all company safety procedures and industrial safety requirements.
Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when performing maintenance work.
Ensure machines are properly isolated before maintenance activities.
Maintain a clean and safe working area.
Report unsafe equipment conditions immediately to the responsible supervisor.
Follow proper procedures when handling tools, machinery, lubricants, and mechanical components.
Job Requirements
Required Qualifications
Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field.
Relevant technical training or certification in mechanical maintenance is an advantage.
Proven experience in mechanical maintenance and repair.
Previous experience in a steel, manufacturing, factory, industrial, or heavy machinery environment is highly desirable.
Strong practical knowledge of industrial mechanical systems.
Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and technical manuals.
Good knowledge of mechanical tools and maintenance equipment.
Ability to diagnose and solve mechanical problems independently.
Preference will be give to candidates with experience working in the industrial sector
Technical Skills
Candidates should have practical knowledge of:
Industrial machinery maintenance
Bearings and shaft systems
Gearboxes and transmission systems
Pumps and valves
Belt and chain drive systems
Hydraulic systems
Pneumatic systems
Lubrication systems
Mechanical alignment
Welding and basic fabrication is an advantage
