Purpose of the Job

The purpose of the job is to oversee the operation of the batch plant and furnace, ensuring the efficient production of high-quality glass products while strictly adhering to safety regulations and operational standards. This role involves supervising batch and furnace processes, monitoring and adjusting operational parameters, and ensuring a seamless workflow among shift teams. Additionally, the role requires coordinating shift activities, implementing strategic production plans, and fostering a safe working environment to maintain compliance and operational excellence.

Major duties and Responsibilities

• Assists the supervisor in the planning, direction and management of the overall batch and furnace operation.

• Supervise batch mixing and furnace operations to ensure consistent production.

• Monitor raw material feed and furnace temperature to optimize glass quality.

• Adjust furnace parameters to improve energy efficiency and minimize defects.

• Implement process improvements to enhance production reliability.

• Coordinate shift activities, ensuring smooth communication among team members.

• Provide guidance, training, and leadership to production staff.

• Conduct quality inspections on raw materials and finished glass products.

• Ensure adherence to industry standards and implement corrective actions when necessary.

• Enforce safety protocols to protect workers and prevent accidents.

• Conduct safety audits and training to promote a secure working environment.

• Identify and resolve operational issues impacting batch and furnace efficiency.

• Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and collaborate with maintenance teams.

• Communicate effectively with other departments to address operational issues, share information, and coordinate activities.

• Promote a strong safety culture among team members through training, communication, and enforcement of safety procedures.

• Performs other related duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

Job Requirements

Required Knowledge and skills (Competence)

Education

• BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science, or related fields.

• Training in furnace operation and thermal management and batch processing protocols for glass production.

Experience:

• Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, preferably in glass manufacturing

Skills

• In-depth knowledge of glass manufacturing processes and furnace operations Proficiency in quality control methods and production documentation.

• Ability to troubleshoot equipment failures and implement corrective actions.

• Strong leadership and communication skills for effective team management.
