JOB SUMMARY

The role involves providing comprehensive, patient-centered medical care in line with up-to-date clinical knowledge and MOH and IMC protocols, including management of acute and life-threatening conditions, safe motherhood, and child health services while strictly adhering to infection prevention and control standards. It includes regular patient follow-up, clear communication with patients and families, and appropriate clinical decision-making on treatment, discharge, or referral.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSABILITIES

  • Provide medical consultations as needed, prescribing necessary treatment based on adapted and up-to-date medical knowledge, MOH and IMC protocols, values and universal hygiene standards to improve the patients’/beneficiaries’ health conditions.

  • Assess, diagnose, and manage acute medical cases, including severe infections, trauma, and complications.

  • Support emergency and life-saving procedures in collaboration with specialist staff.

  • Carry out treatment for acute and life-threatening illnesses at the primary healthcare level, including safe motherhood and child health consultations, based on infection prevention and control guidelines

  • Keep the patient and/or his/her family informed about the illness and provide appropriate explanations about the treatment to follow, checking they have understood.

  • Follow up the evolution of the patients through daily consultations and examinations, prescribing the necessary treatment according to MOH protocols, adapting treatment when necessary, deciding whether patient is ready for discharge or requires transfer to another department or facility.

  • Monitor and control the rational distribution of medicines and equipment under his/her responsibility and ensure the quality, disinfection and sterilization of the medical material.

  • Ensure patient confidentiality is always respected.

  • Strengthening linkages and coordination mechanisms between the community and the Woreda health bureaus

  • Strengthening of early referral mechanisms.

  • Ensure all referral cases are properly transported to the nearest or woreda capital hospital based on the availability of ambulance and seriousness of the illness.

  • Assure general compliance with standard infection prevention and control standards.

  • Provide supervision, technical assistance, and capacity building to health extension workers.

  • Responsible for day-to-day documentation and report of service provided.

  • Provide comprehensive clinical care in emergency, outpatient, and inpatient settings.

  • Mentor and supervise nurses, medical officers, and junior staff in clinical management.

  • Ensure accurate documentation, reporting, and medical record-keeping.

  • Implement infection prevention and control (IPC) practices according to hospital and IMC standards.

Job Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (Medical Doctor) with relevant clinical experience with a valid registration and practicing license.

  • Two years’ experience for a medical doctor. Priority will be given to applicants with previous clinical experience in health facility or NGO level.

  • Extremely flexible, able to work independently, and can cope with stressful situations and frustrations.

  • Interest in and ability to work in team.

  • Proficiency in written and spoken English and report writing skills.

  • Good organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability and willingness to work in remote and potentially insecure environments

  • Qualified female candidates are highly encouraged to apply
